I Recently stripped the head to be shaved after blowing a head gasket and noticed carbon deposits on the injection nozzles.
I soaked the injectors in brake cleaner and wiped them over with a soft cloth to clean them up a bit.
After re-assembly and start up there is a noticeable miss and...
The 12HT is direct injected versus the 2H which is indirect. The 12HT injectors are a totally different design and much stronger meaning they cost sh!t loads more.
I think the last time I checked it would have cost me $1000 just for the injectors.
That was a few years ago too.
I know it dosnt look like much bit that pressure sender hanging off the side of the oil cooler may be a bit heavy for a brass fitting to hold with the amount of vibration a 2H produces.
It just looks to me the extra fittings are amplifying those vibrations and causing a fatigue point at the...
Loosen head bolts 1/4 turn in reverse order of tightening sequence. Then re tention bolts in three stages till recommend torque is reached.
This should be done when engine is cold.
See attached pic for 2H/ 12HT sequence.
Are you running a locker?
I had the same trouble running a Detroit locker in the rear, when the torque release mechanism clicked over on a paved surface it would send a shock down the axle and pop the studs.
The throttle is a bit twitchy with a 12HT but you do get used to it.
There are times I still need to steady my foot by holding against the kick panel but it's pretty much automatic now.
Better option than my effort...
I lost all drive power during a gear change so I pulled the transmission expecting to find a worn clutch.
Should have known I couldn't be that lucky, clutch was fine but the rear main shaft bearing cover had an odd looking bulge in it.
I stripped the box and...
Yep, had that happen to me once. The pressure relief valve can work a grove in its bore and get stuck blowing the oil filter and contents of the sump onto the ground. Good thing the 2h motor has a auto shutdown when oil pressure is lost.
Just bought a 86 troopy for my better half and after taking it for a short run (about 50 kms) it blew a heater hose and after letting it cool found oil in the radiator.
After assuming it was the head gasket I stripped the top half of the motor but the head gasket was still intact only some...
