looks to me like an IR transmitter/reciever... my lx470 came with an aftermarket flip down dvd system and had a similiar device mounted on the ceiling facing down... it came with the special 'IR' headphones that would play the movie audio when in direct sight of the little black box on the ceiling... but if its not mounted high up on the ceiling then my guess would be just a IR reciever to operate the dvd player via IR remote like your TV in your house or something
