A little while later I did the rear door panels.

First I had to get the internal door handle installed and hooked up. the linkages between the handle and the latch, and the door and the latch are a PITA with hands my size. I guess if I had little tiny hands it might be easier.

One thing I noticed is that the driver side rear door had 3 bolt holes to mount the internal handle, while the passenger side door had 4 bolt holes. Has anyone else noticed this?

I should say that I did opt to keep the ash trays when I ordered the panels from Steve. I get a kick out of thinking about a vehicle that can transport 8 husky men and go 70 or 80 MPH (I forget what the old ad says) and has an ashtray in every door. I envision all the 1970's husky Japanese people trying to get these Pigs up to 70 MPH while all smoking.

I did find a single partially smoked cigarette in the passenger front door ashtray. It has faded lipstick on the filter. My overly-active imagination thinks that it may have been from a night that changed the previous owner's life. I opted to put that old cigarette back in the ash tray after cleaning it out.

Looks really good.. i also have Steve panels hope all mine fit well especially the cargo. ....wonder where one could obtain the same plastic moisture blue wrap you used.. for doors....
I also saw that you are not running any door side weather stripping. ..ever since I added mine my doors are extremely difficult to shut....

My guess is that we probably order that blue wrap from ULine. I can check if you would like. The problem is that you would have to buy a big roll.

I do have the door weather stripping that I got from SLO Cruisers - still need to get that on!

I have been reading up on what people do for tunes in their Pigs for a while.

There are a few good threads on stereos:

Then a few good threads on speakers. My favorite is MiniPigg's creative mounts for speakers in the front kick panels using roofing supplies from the home improvement store:

While I was thinking of installing a stereo, I was also thinking of installing a Check Engine Light (CEL) for the 3FE. I also wanted to ground the wiper washer switch so it would get power, as well as ground the cigarette lighter. When I would try to power the GPS unit from the cigarette lighter, I kept getting the message that the power to the GPS has been lost, and it will power off in 30 seconds unless I did something. What a PITA.

So I figured it would be easier to get an additional center panel for the dash that I could work up on the bench, and get everything set up the way I wanted to before I was on my back under the dash. I finally found a nice panel and got it.

I found the Dual head unit at AutoZone for the vast sum of ~$35. When I did a test fit I found I would have to bend the tabs out a little to take the Dual unit. I will run a little vacuum tubing under the front of the unit to isolate it from vibrations the center panel may pass through and then mount the back of the unit using the strap supplied with the stereo.

I found a great CEL for the center panel that will fit the empty hole in the upper left corner.

This will allow me to ditch my "temporary" CEL living in the currently empty radio slot.

The CEL, radio and individual ground wires will allow me to drop out my current panel and swap in the replacement one that has been all pre-wired, hopefully with a minimal amount of fooling around. Last time I tried to pull that panel it was difficult.

My one concern about swapping is that one of the levers (I think the one for Recirc?) is difficult to move...

So I'll be excited to get the stereo and speakers wired up!

That is all for now. Next up I'll swap out the rear bumper for one with a receiver from Bump It Offroad. I'll have to wire up the Piggy for a trailer as we want to pull a little pop-up around this summer. I better get moving...

The problem with the sticky vent lever is more than likely binding in the cable itself. You may have to remove it and try dripping some ATF down the wire to free it up. PITA but a:banana: job

Thanks Ming! I was wondering if running some PB Blaster, or some Aero Croil in the cable would be necessary to free it up.

I need to keep writing here!

SNIP

TJ,
Please do! Just catching up and came across this amazing thread. Yeah, it'll be a great help for others. Being Pigless, it brought back a wave of nostalgic memories accentuated by the green. A really beautiful machine that works beautifully, neither of which is easy with a Pig. Congrats and a well-deserved reward for the effort.:D

Neither of which is easy for a Pig...

Yes, I have felt like working on my 40 project is child's play compared to the Pig project! I seem to be drawn high maintenance choices. I fell in love with a German Shepherd at the pound that was pretty high maintenance. Luckily my wife is much less maintenance! I lucked out there.
Thanks for the compliments! I will add more soon. I have a few more steps to write up, and then hopefully in about a month I can take some next steps on the Pig.

That is a gorgeous pig I am starting my rebuild got a 72 a few months back
