what manuals everybody has (part numbers)
and what year you think they covered roughly

and also to see if i am missing any of the chassis body ones.

this is what i have in my garage, all dates guesstimates

1967 fj55 only 97216
1967-70 - #00400-98041
1971-74 - #00400-98077
1971-75 - 98077-1
1976-78 - 98154
1976-79 - 98154E

I have some Jake but not the time to look into them right now.

BJ40green/Rudi started putting together some info on engine manuals but we really need to update it with info on the many more that we know are available:

PS. If I get some time to sort through my FSMs I'll try and post more stuff here.

Hi again Jake.

Chassis & Body FSM 36044 was introduced in Aug 1980 (because a lot of changes occurred to Toyota's landcruiser production on that date).

I think it is misleading to give a "lifespan" for an FSM because when a significant change occurred, Toyota either published a "Supplement" to cover it (that needed to be purchased in addition to the main FSM) or they published a revision that bears the same publication number.

I think it's better to simply list an FSM's introduction date and then list the revision dates and supplements too.

A revised version is usually different from an earlier version ... especially as regards any wiring diagrams.

Also, I suspect E stands either for "Europe" or "Export" as a suffix to an FSM number. But this is still confusing me because there are suffixes used to denote different languages too.

And this may explain why I'm slow to give details of my FSMs... I've got to work out some sort of system for doing it ... But I'll probably take Rudi's lead and use an EXCEL spreadsheet with information similar to what he did for those 3 engine FSMs I posted earlier.

sounds good makes sense thanks again . i also have a couple supplements i could post also.

WOW .it seems more complicated than i expected ,but very interesting.
i will look at mine a little closer now i do have multiple copies of certain manuals ,i will check all the dates on them.

Hi Jake.

I just now had a look through my landcruiser Chassis & Body FSMs and this is what I've put together:

C&Bfsms.jpg

(I see in the early years Toyota often simply said their FSM covered "the Toyota Landcruiser" whereas in later years they got more specific on which models.)

Hope this is the sort of thing you were after.

PS. And here's my info on landcruiser Engine FSMs:
Efsms.jpg

But they're all diesel I'm afraid....

And I've got a couple of transmission-specific landcruiser FSMs too. ("1963-printed FJ series" and "1990-printed 36237E".)

Hi Tom,

What are the differences in the 98154 between 1976 and 1978?

Hi Tom,

What are the differences in the 98154 between 1976 and 1978?

Rudi

Just skimming through them both and noting down changes that catch my eye....

6th page from cover, the 1978 refers to H engine repair manual supplement 98282 whereas 1976 doesn't.

Pages 5-6 and 5-7 have been revised in the 1978 version to give the different rear axle oil capacities as :FJ40 & BJ40 2.4L, FJ43 & BJ43 2.7L, FJ45, HJ45 & FJ55 2.9L (abbreviated here) and how to check the correct oil level is explained in an illustration that the 1976 version is missing.

Similar revision for front axle page 6-19.

Booster Push Rod to Master Cylinder Piston Clearance Standard (on bottom of page 13.21) given as 0.1 - 0.5mm in 1976 but 0.6 to 0.65mm in 1978 (with the addition of the words "without vacuum").

And casting doubt over what I said in my earlier post about wiring diagrams , I didn't notice any changes in the electrical section (including wiring diagrams where both still show the 1975 FJ40 diagram for instance).

So my verdict is ... either one is fine for a 1977 ... which is what I know you're after.

Thanks Tom for taking the trouble to figure it out. Actually mine is a January 1978 so my FSM (3rd printing, December 1976) is fine for me.

Rudi

great job Tom that looks excellent. i always wondered if the later year reprints had updates .

now you have me looking at all my manuals and reprint dates

my

36044E X3 dates of 1980,1982,1993

98154 X2 and 98154e X1 dates of 1976,1979, E 1992 respectively

98077 and 98077-1 printed in japan dates of 1971,1975
98077 and 98077-1 reprint in US manuals have conflicting dates and info so not to sure about them yet . one says on the cover 98077-1
but printed on the last page says 98077 also on the cover is the years 72-74
and on the back inside cover says .dec 71 , so it is a bit odd to me i think these ones are knockoffs or fake reproductions. they look real tho and will come in handy for sure.

thanks for posting up your info .

my two supplements are

98139 1975 rear axle ,front axle ,brakes

98344 1978 power steering

also have a toyota service training manual

00401-34354 1974 4spd transmission (H41) US

Does anybody know where I could get a pdf of the BJ41 chassis and body repair manual?

Sent from my HTC One X using IH8MUD

You have a PM.

Rudi

As much as I would love to have a paper copy, I can't seem to find one. (Except for SOR, and I'm not paying $100 for the damn thing...) Would it be possible for one of you fine gents to send me 98077-1 in a PDF? I can't seem to find it on-line.

Also, what is the difference between 98077 and 98077-1?
