THe name we've chosen will probably only resonate with coon hunters in the South. For those of you not familiar with this, a "black & tan" is a breed of coonhound. AKC describes one like this: "The Black and Tan Coonhound is first and fundamentally a working dog, a trail and tree hound, capable of withstanding the rigors of winter, the heat of summer, and the difficult terrain over which he is called upon to work." Thought it was a fitting description for both.
I'll start when I brought her home.

I've got a ton of pictures as I've documented everything done up till now. Besides a full tune-up and some distributor work there isn't much being done to the "guts" so this is mainly body and suspension.
I guess a little background info would be in order. I had been looking for a vehicle for my son for over a year. I had considered a jeep or a truck until I came across this Land Cruiser thing (I was not familiar with this awesome vehicle). I drove one home that a guy about an hour away and decided it needed way too much with rust and a home made SOA that had been attempted.
I went back to looking for a jeep when a buddy of mine and I were talking (he also has a son the same age as my son). I mentioned looking at a Cruiser and he told me that a man down the road has bought one for his wife brand new in 1987 and he thought he wanted to sell it. Well, we went straight to his house and sure enough he was ready to sell. He let me take it home and I cleaned her up a bit and tried to see what was needed (with my limited mechanical skills). I decided to get it. He asked $3000 and that was that. 1987 FJ60 w/ 181K.
My son was unsure to say the least as well as my wife but I just told them that they couldn't see the forest for the trees and that this rig would be SHARP when finished.
I'm not going to post everything tonight cause it would take too long and I'm getting tired of typing but I will eventually get em all posted. I will tell you this, I'm thinking of giving my son my truck and driving this for myself:)

Anyone ever try Guinness and Blue Moon? I have heard it being called Dark Side of the moon in some bars....one of the best combinations ever for a beer.

And, we're off topic...

Chriedwa, sorry for the hijack, and good luck with the build! My 60 has a bit of black and tan going as well.

Don't have to worry about smog where I live. I did install the Iron Man 2 1/2" lift. Lot of body work...sand, sand, and sand. It's mostly done I've just got to upload to documentation. I'll get to some of it tonight after the wife and I have our date night;)

Oh and by the way reevesci, my parents are actually in Cody, Wyoming as I speak. They just up and took off on a road trip. Got some relatives in Salt Lake.

Yeah man, I'm interested in seeing a write up on that iron man lift. I'm thinking about getting one at ACC.How do you like it? Do you know if there is anyway to increase the lift a bit? (I wanted to run maybe a 35"-37" tire)

lovetoski has a nice write-up on here about a one-inch body lift that he did.
