Suddenly this set of crates showed up at my shop the other day, and the guy said "I think it's an engine" and helped me unload it. Magically, I opened both crates and it's a matching set: 1HDFTE Engine with 5 speed manual transmission with only 16k miles on them from the UK - Courtesy of G&S Cruiser parts

Someone is going to be very lucky, either by swapping this in to their 95-97 FZJ80, or their 100 series.

The engine doesn't currently have an owner, but for 12k and a few dollars labor  they can have this engine installed in their cruiser.

I'm drooling over getting to drive this monster, and even more about the job of installing it into - something...

Wow... looks like my F-150 might be going up for sale!

i just looked up the specs on this motor. ~200 horsepower when intercooled and 317 ftlbs of torque with a broad power band sound pretty good but Im betting there is a lot more left on the table. What else do you plan to do to improve power? Can you just turn up the boost and adjust fuel and timing?

I prefer to leave things the way Toyota designed it, for longevity and reliability. Yes, there are always ways to increase power, but usually at the expense of the engine.

That stuff looks familiar!:grinpimp:

If you could find a way to register diesel conversions in CA you'd be a very wealthy man.

Beno and I need to go for a road trip and bring LOTS of beer and chilli. We need to get Tor wasted and sitting on the can long enough to steal/borrow the pallets......

Estimates will be all over the map. Our HDJ81 gets about 15 mpg average. I'm guessing the 24 valve will do a bit better.

not that much .. those engines are thirsty ..

BTW Beno .. did you have 1HD-T / FT / FTE parts available . ?

8-12km/l (19-28mpg) would be my guess. I consistently get 8-9.3 km/l with my AT 1HD-T.

Will post accurate results after the manual tranny swap is completed.

What's a rough estimate for MPG with that setup in an 80?

16k miles!! WOW!!

Tor,

Would you take a 4bt and a Slee Hi Steer kit in trade..... :) Please....
