wow.. I would be interested to know under what conditions did it blew up ?
Wheeling ? Hwy? heavy foot ?
What gears did you have before 3.70's ?

4.11 put my RPM's right at 2K at 70mph... on a flat road.. up hill it goes up between that and 2400 rpm's

4.88 would probably bump yah at 2200rpm's at 70mph.. Im guessing....

Blew my rear ring pinion. I have V8 converted fj60 what would my best option be
4.88 maybe? How bad will this affect highway speeds?

Are you spring over?

What do you use to control axle wrap?

Did you break the pinion or the ring gear?

I managed to wheelie on fins and things during CM 2011. Likely when the damage occurred. Wheeling, Hwy, Heavy foot, probably all three. :hillbilly:

Yes SOA :grinpimp:
No Track Bar :frown:
Pictures to follow soon.

I would like to improve the crawling abilities without sacrificing highway performance too much.

What says MUD. :hillbilly:

So you have a vortec, H55 and split case, but which gears do you have? Your truck came with 3.73's, did Proffitts switch it out for something else?

There is your problem...

When you wheelied it put the entire weight and force on the rear axle causing it to wrap up, bind the U joint, and then snapped the pinion gear in half from the newly found shear load applied from the bound up U joint vs the torque load like it would normally experience.

GET A WRAP BAR!

Pictures....

3.70 gears, drove 200 miles home like that :hillbilly: Likely just replace the stock gears, dont really have the $$ right now for anything else. :hillbilly:

Whoa! cant believe that held like that! you were driving on a bomb!!

If you are happy with the gearing, maybe just a wrap bar and you'll be OK?

Or, you can use longer and stiffer springs, which is what I did.

Still, that gearing is not optimal and this is a good time to consider deeper gearing.

wrap bar no matter, then also if you can afford it some gears.
