Del and I have a close friend, almost like a little brother, deployed to Afghanistan with the 123rd Bravo Company of the United States Marine Corps.

He will be there until mid October.

We will be sending a gift box over very soon.
Some things that are needed are as followed:

compression shorts
Grizzly straight and wintergreen
Nike pro fit clothing
Socks with silver lining Juzo Silver Sole Crew Sock 12-16mmHg Closed Toe, S, White - 5760AC06 S
Marlboro and Camel Lights
matchbox cars..these are used to gain friendship with the local children
hunting magazines

Del's stitch and bitch club just filled up a monster box and has thrown down the gauntlet, challenging the CLC.

A little more on the deployed Marine.

Del started babysitting for this family when she was 10 years old. At the time, there was a 2 year old boy, a 1 year old boy and infant twin boys. Yep, a 10 year old girl babysitting 4 boys under 3.

Eric, the Marine, was the 1 year old. Eric and his brothers grew up never wanting for anything but by no means spoiled. His parents live on the back side of Eastover with their land backing up to the Pearl River. They all grew up the way boys should grow up which includes hunting, fishing, fighting with their friends and loving their Momma.

This is the family that got me into Cruisers. Big Jimmy, the Dad, bought a Freeborn Red 40 right out of college. That was his daily driver until his family started to grow. He bought an Astro Van in the late 80's. He hated it. When Toyota came out with the 80 with third row seating he bought one ASAP. She put a ton of miles on it, he put a ton of miles on it, Del and I went on dates in it, each boy learned to drive in it and in 2006 it saved one of the twins lives when he was hit by a drunk driver on Ridgewood Road. The drunk driver wasn't so lucky.

Back to the Marine. He went to Ole Miss a few years ago, pledged Phi Delt was having a ball but still wasn't really happy. In 2008 he joined the Marine Reserves. Not to pay for college, not because he was failing in school but because he loves loves loves his country.

He switched reserve units in order to get to go to Afghanistan. This will be the last Reserve unit to go. Let's pray that every last one of them make it back.:beer:

Eric just called me via satallite phone from Afghanistan. He said they are getting super busy as harvest season(opium) has just started. Of all of the people on his list to call, he called me. Why? Partly because of y'all. He was overwhelmed by the gifts. Del and I have received so much stuff that it has made us able to send him monthly packages. Eric thanks you. I thank you.
 
Cool deal. The guy I have been "supporting" with monthly shipments has returned safe. It was fun sending stuff out there for them.

This is Eric's response to my question of "Do you still feel safe?"

not really. we have had 3 ied strikes in our AO in the last week. And have been taking small arms fire at our patrol bases. couple of my buddies got blown up 4 days ago, but they are at the hospital and will be fine. Its just like they know we are leavingso they want to f with us

We're increasing our patrols. thats pretty much all we can do. a lot of it has to do with them pulling all the other Marines out of Marjah except for us. They are handing everything over to the Afghan Nat. Army who aint worth a s***

They are using carbon rods in the ied's so our metal detectors dont pick them upsupposedly we got new metal detectors that will pick them up, but i doubt we will see themthey put the carbon rods in the pressure plate

its almost like they are taking carbon arrows and breaking them. I swear thre rods look just like a broken arrow

He should be coming home in a month. Keep'm crossed.
