Why not a 99, just for my info.

Shane

99's require premium gas.

Not so much of a problem if the prior owner used premium gas but there is a HIGH probability that they did not.

I've had a 98 LC and a 99 and 03 LX. I have to admit that the 03 seems to be better than the other two in almost all respects (and the LXs have a lot of features over the LCs I like) Surprisingly, one of the best features about the 03 (in addition to the tranny) is the VGRS (Variable Gear Ratio Steering) It really makes it more enjoyable to drive on and off road. As for the AHC, I'm ambivalent about it. It's a really nice feature, but I can also see it being a problem if you wanted to do a "real" lift (something other than just resetting the height sensors.) With regard to the reliability of the AHC system, I've heard of very few people having trouble with them (sound in the background of all four hydraulic accumulators on my LX exploding......)

I just don't buy into it causing problems. I'm sure an O2 sensor will take an early sheet but other than that? The problem is going from 93 to 87 and back to 93 and so on.

Think about it, octane is an additive to gasoline that makes it burn slower. The same trucks are delivered to Denver, the Mile High City, as delivered to New Orleans, which is below sea level. If you take a truck running on 93 in NOLA and drive it to Denver then the computer recalibrates, along with the help of the highest octane being like 90, and the truck runs fine.

So if you have a truck in Jackson, MS running 93 and SLOWLY start introducing 89 then 87 then all the computer thinks is that you have gone from a low altitude to a higher altitude. Albiet with lower mpg's.

Now, like I said, I think the problem comes when you jump from 93 to 87 to 89 and back to 87 then 93. I'm sure the average housewife doesn't give a rip about my octane lesson when she has a $20 in her pocket and a cell phone stiched to her ear.

So in the end, I agree with you :D dont buy a '99.

Mike already mentioned this, but the 99's have the 2-pin front diff. If you're going to wheel it, you should consider the 2000 or later with the beefier 4-pin version (I think I have that right, but I defer to Mike on this since he's the one with the experience with this issue).

My 02 has ATRAC. Worked great at the crawl.

I echo Jes's comment: this is my most favorite vehicle.

I have seen some compression tests on 99's with 100K miles on them and no 93 octane and they are noticeably low numbers.

Christo showed me some data on it one time when I was going to buy a 99.

I have this thought of loading up a 100 and heading down to Big Bend next winter.....

Color coded Slee bumpers and sliders.......roof rack......all the poser stuff.

Slap some 37's on the 80, wheel with Debbie.......

Build the 80, keep the bronco and don't waiste your time on a 100. Not hatin' 100s they are just so limited in the aftermarket. 33s maybe 35s on a 100. 40s plus on an 80. You just have more room to grow. 37s on an 80 and you are golden.

The fun is Seeing if you can keep up with deb ; )

Only reason to get a 100 is if you plan on going crazy like a pro rock Dana 60 front. Now that is worth going for! But then it may be as capable as an 80, maybe.

Nolen, You will get bored not having a highly capable buggy. Unless you want to sell the bronco to me, then I will let you ride in it anytime you want.;p

Put the tooth fairy in a 200 and build that later, now you got something to look forward to..

Stirring the pot...

I have been wanting to do Big Bend for awhile.

Lenny, I have been doing the hard core rock crawling for a long time. You are just now getting the bug and that is great. I am happy for you.

I don't want a built 100 to rockcrawl or trail ride with. I have no desire. In fact, I took my last 100 in places it was just not supposed to be, but I digress. I would take one to Moab again, but mainly I would like to have a Cruiser that I felt comfortable strapping my RZR behind and driving it to some events here and there.

I may get into the buggy thing one day again, but alas after 6 buggies and a few hundred grand down the tube, I think I am ready to separate from it.

I have more fun now going to camp and riding my RZR and just hanging out.

You can bring me $30,000 and the Bronco can be yours tonight.

I want to trail ride the 80 and try to keep up with Deb and Bodean.

Appreciate the price on the bronco. Even though I love it I just can't do that right now. A lot of traveling and build projects in the near future .

The money you spent on your buggies afforded you great experiences. Real hard to put a price on that. Definitely money well spent in my opinion. So I hope you don't have any regrets about it.

The 80 can tow the RZR. I towed the Samup to hot springs with my 80. Granted I won't do THAT again, but it can easily handle the RZR and a small trailer. JUS MY 2 cents.

Nolen, You are finally coming around to my way of thinking. I'm just gonna keep spending very little $ on the 40 and having fun. Fix what breaks, take a load of s*** for not wheeling what everyone thinks I should be wheelng, load it on the trailer and get ready for the next ride. Been working for years and have had lots of fun doing it.

I am 100% impressed with the ATRAC on the FJ Cruiser. It is amazing.

GenII ATRAC is AWESOME!

My 02 has ATRAC. Worked great at the crawl.

But being Spivey's passenger with GenI... was so AWESOME too!

Amen! I've loved the last two years attending Cruiser rides without a rig... it's so less stressful. One reason why I've been dragging getting a trailer....

I wanted a 100 to tow Lorena, but got convinced to buy something bigger... Even though the Tundra walks the dog on folks at red lights... I'd love to pimp a hunnerd on the daily.

Yep. I really, really am enjoying the RZR. I wish I could get some of you fools to buy one....

I am more coming around to the fact that I have "been there and done that" on the hardcore wheeling. I have been to 90% of all the places in the US. I have cut some of the hardest trails in Texas and Oklahoma. I have made my mark, had my fun, have few regrets.

What I am really wanting to do is some camping trips with the kids to some new places. I want to go explore the Mena AR area with Bossman and crew, head back to Big Bend, go to the National Seashore in Corpus and drive the beach....

The buggy is cool and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it and especially love driving it around town, but the RZR and 80 are more what I want to "wheel" these days.

You guys are getting soft.. Yall need the toothfairy to slip yall some Viagras

I am going to just sit back and watch you put $15,000 into a $3000 Zuk.

Been there, glad to see someone else do it :bounce:

And you of all people know that's still cheap for a rig..

Since your looking for a comfortable rig to tow with ...You need to get the official cotton land ride...

A big ass RV !

They we can all crowd in and tow my junk across the country and have a ball watching me break it.
