K, originally I planned to pick up a 83 or 86 2F but it appears I also may have a shot at a 3F for my 76. I realize there's a performance advantage to the 3F, but would purchasing that hurt or help the resale value of the FJ40? Also, pretty sure he'll want more money for the 3F. How much more would the 3F be worth?

Added cost will depend on the boneyard. You will need the engine harness, cowl harness, ECU and other EFI bits that you would not need on a 2F installation. The engine itself should not cost any more, just the additional bits.

it's probably a 3FE which has EFI so it would make your 40 more dependent on electronics and more fuel efficient.

if i were you i'd get the 86 2F ;)

Just for entertainment purposes ... numbers for my 2FE (2F with 3FE injection) ...

I out stump-pull both engines. Personally, I would go with the 3FE. More work? Yes. But, you just can't beat EFI. Personally, I think a 3FE has more potential than Toyota and many people give it, especially after you remove all the smog junk and make some improvements.

So more fuel efficient would be a bad thing?:hmm:

It wouldn't hurt the resale value. IMHO

It would be more work.:bang:

Thanks to all for the info so far. I'm not doing the installation. That will be done in a shop. As for the extra bits, or what I'll need, it will be a straight pull with everything out of one vehicle and into the FJ40. Are the 3F/3Fand the original tranny in a FJ40 compatible?

I think you should check out this thread before making any decisions. It is easier than you think. This will definitely be the way I go when the F goes outs. That article is intimidating because they are putting the harness back in a 60 series. You end up with about a 1/4th of the wiring harness when you put it in a 40. Just my opinion...take it for what it's worth.
