Burning dinosaur bones...
Well i just bought a BJ40 yesterday.
I've been looking for a BJ42 for a while, but the few i looked at were pretty neglected and asking a for too much money in my opinion. I went out and looked over this 79 BJ40 that come up for sale a couple of days ago and put a deposit on it right there. I was after a 3B, but this engine is basically the same albeit a bit smaller capacity and no piston-skirt cooling. I was never going to turbo it anyway so it doesn't matter. It was originally an old guys truck, that he bought from new, and he owned it for 28 years before the PO bought it off him. He has kept a service record from the beginning writing down everything he has ever done to the truck and any money he has ever spent on it. It makes for good reading! The PO has kept the book going and wrote everything down and kept all receipts! There is also a Toyota B/2B engine manual to go with it.
It's only got 185,000 km's on the odometer and the diesel is in great condition. The only aftermarket addition to the engine is a CAV fuel filter cartridge setup. The PO installed a new 2" lift with new leaf packs/greasable shackles and EFS shocks. It's also got a set of 33" cooper STT's on white steel wheels as well as 5 original skinnys. He has resprayed it a dark grey colour late last year as the original tan/beige paint had minor surface rust in places It actually looks pretty good and drives great so i'm real happy!
I don't pick it up until next week, but here are a couple of teaser shots...
