Well thanks for all the inf here ,this its my 3er. serviced warn 8274 that i made here. The 1 one i take few pic. the 2 one was the 8274-50 now on my FJ40, then this its the one that came when i got the 40. I know its a lot of inf,but i like to share some pictures,if someone have any questions i will try to answer on my little English.. Hope does not end at chat forum...:rolleyes:

How to clean the motor case and if you work alone then you have to use your imagination more than 1 time...

Another diference between the 8274 and the 8274-50,besides the cover look and remote plug location,it's that the *50* have a direct ground hole to the body of the motor. On the 8274 a few guys weld a nut to the body,taping a hole and threaded or just like i do,ad a good short cable like show in the pictures. Remember when you paint the motor body, * DON'T paint * the inside edges,specially where attach to the gear case,here its where they take the best ground connection,later when you finish just apply a bed of clear silicone ,all the way around leaving the bottom to breath the water condensation..:hillbilly: Also you can paint the winch with clear paint to better look and before each trip to the mud,,really sticky :censor: mud remember spray it with WD40..

impressive cleaning or is it restoration even...
 
thanks guys,well its almost a full restoration,the seals was good with no water in the oil,so i just clean,paint and lube again,but all the dirty since i guess 1979,,it's not a 2 day job.( working at night at the garage)..so its ready for the next 25 years.
 
I have a warn 9000XI, I think thats right, that has not been used in YEARS due to a lack of wheeling. If she doesn't work what PM should be done on it ? Torn down and oiled ? NO clue Pls help
 
hi to all...Rigpig,yes its need grease on the " ball bearings" you have to made a bed with the grease,the balls are loose inside the brake system otherwise the heat can damage the 2 rollers. I will post more pic when they finish working on a few bugs.thanks

Eshu, nice job on rebuilding your winch. I've rebuilt several and i understand greasing the bearings and to keep them in place when putting the plates back together, but just curious why you greased the brake(cylindrical friction pads) and the faces they slide on? If your pawl or ratchet wheel(for lack of a better term) breaks, your pads are the only thing keeping your truck from rolling backwards and hopefully stoping your truck.

Thanks again for the comments, but i believe its reallly don't matter the grease on the plates pads,time,heat and rain will let the grease anyway cover the side of the plates. I mean on the long term, but when you use the winch the brake system its hold outside via the claw,the plates pads are to prevent metal to metal friction, i dont know maybe i'm wrong someone can school me better or explain in other way..but thanks Rigpig..

Warn 8274 rebuild I use this link on reference. :D I'm working( rebuilding) on my #4 --Warn 8274 it's belong to a friend ,the one on my pictures was sold locally for $750.00 but with all accessories-150'steel cable,warn dust cover,remote control, hooks,roller and steels plate. Also i will sells( brand new) the remote control connectors the 4 pins female for the remote control and the male 4 pin for the solenoid cover.maybe on ebay.

No one commented that you do not fill the brake with grease, or use any grease on the brake during assembly?

The discs are friction material; just like that of a drum brake or disc brake system.

So you grease your brake shoes and pads too? :eek:

I cannot believe that this is reference material out here.



The brake friction material on the winch, just like the brakes on your vehicle, were not ever intended to be greased.


If you cannot get the bearings to play along while reassembling the brake unit, try a few magnets on the bottom of the brake.
