Hey Guys-
I just finished putting a new smog pump in my 60 today and as I had everything apart I noticed an inordinate amount of oil/oil residue in the back of the air filter where it connects to the valve cover. Any ideas what this could be? I've always know a little to be normal but this seems like a bit more than I've ever seen. Oh yes, and the smog pump went amazingly well. Thanks

Yeah..You need to check your PCV valve and make sure you have a good vacuum on it. Pull the vacuum hose off the top of the hose and make sure you have a vacuum. I would also change the PCV valve if it has been a couple of years. They are cheap from the dealer. Sounds like your engine can't breath properly. Did you have any oil in the lines connecting to the back of the smog pump?

pretty typical for an engine with burnt valves as well...lots of blowby.

I thought blowby was a symptom of worn out rings... ?

Mine would turn an air filter black with oil within a week before the rebuild.
