Garden day company …
This sparked a few synapses for me. When we bought our house almost 30 years ago we got our first Lab. I was always working in our yard, which was a jungle and needed a lot of work, and from day 1 he accompanied me in every project. In addition to being a pretty accomplished retriever and obedience dog, he loved being with me while I worked in the yard, to the very end. He was a great dog. Our current Lab has no interest whatsoever in helping me in the yard! Enjoy your helper.

My German Shepherds love hanging out with me in the yard when I work on it. If I work on my Land Cruiser, they hang out inside it. I love it. I think it’s really adorable of them and my neighbors love seeing how well behaved they are.

I can't believe I've never responded to this thread.

Tinker is a 5, (almost 6), year old Hungarian Vizsla. She hates my 80, and isn't fond of the 40 when hammering on the throttle.
My dogs all grew up riding in the back of my Bronco, then my 4Runner and now my Sequoia. (All had/have roll-down back windows)

None ever liked my 40 :p

I think the noise is the issue with my 80. It has a set of General Grabber tires on it, and they just howl going down the road. It also has a header on it, and full exhaust, though not very loud. It rides alright though with the big dumb squishy tires. Then adding in rattles, and leaky door seals, it's basically a torture device for a crazy hunting dog.

The 40 has more overall noise overall. But she does better.

The problem is though she goes into anxiety freak out mode when wheeling with anything. She does not care for an engine at high rpm one bit.
She is also very empathetic, I think she senses the giant "OH SCHNICKIES" moment when you're flat footed and pretty sure you're about to make your life miserable, but it's worth the shot getting out. 😆

Furthering the problem, I found out one should grab the dog or kick her out of the vehicle when yanking another vehicle out with a kinetic rope. Hitting the end of that rope with a very stuck pickup on the other end turns a Vizsla into a cabin projectile. Not the desired result.

did someone say DOG TREATS!

My last Shiba HATED water, especially cold water, this guy not so much. Last Shiba also was scared of lightning, fireworks, thunder, guns, welding, even a grinder. This one seems to care less. Had to actually keep him away from welding because he stares at the arc! 🙄😂

Cheers

Fun trip. Was wondering how she would do out camping and she did great. She didn't wander and slept in my bed in the back of my FJ55 and kept me pretty warm.

We spent the last night on a beach on the Tennessee river and she had a bad moment when the channel light next to us went on for the first time but otherwise it went well

Just took my little guy on a three day camping trip too.

He loves to camp but is still not used to long rides or wheeling. His tummy gets upset and he barfs and or drools a lot. Hopefully that gets better with more trips, otherwise he is great out in the bush.

Cheers

Things continue to keep my attention away from my landcruisers, most recently its a dog.

2 weeks ago, i walk out my front door to go to work and am startled by a dog lying against my garage door. Im immediately puzzled because to my knowledge, the entire property is secure with fencing. I crouch down and invite it over, and it walks to me without hesitation and begins accepting some love. Friendly dog, Heeler, female, about 30-35 lbs. Appears to be in good health, is clean, so obvious signs of injury or harm. Kinda fat. Has a collar on, no tag :(

As im getting ready to leave for work and moving trash cans out to the street for trash day, she shows me a 12” diameter hole in the chainlink of one of my rolling gates. Dog does not want to leave my side and when i went out of the fence, she needed to follow me. Any how, I leave the dog with a retired neighbor for the day and go to work. Post lost/found ads to facebook local groups to try and connect her with her owner. She stays with neighbor for 2 days and no one has claimed her. No lost dog flyers within a 1 mile radius. Nothing at local per stores. Nothing at shelter.

I get a reply on FB that a local woman can come scan her for a chip. She does, and no chip :(. She reports dog appears to be 2 years old, is in good health, and is PREGNANT. She estimates 1 week or less to birth. Wholy moly.

Neighbor has no interest in keeping dog, he has a s*** head cattle dog that has to be an only dog. It really needs to be put down for having bit 5 people in the last 3 years  Not my deal though. I agree to take her back. I try hard to find owner with zero hits.

Last tuesday rolls around and she goes into birth the minute i get home from work. I had done some prep with a kiddie pool for delivery, and the woman that scanned her foe a chip came over to assist with the birth process. Out plop 9 pups. Ive gone from 1 dog (my terrier charlie) to 11 in 1 weeks time.

Today marks 1 week of life for the little ones and all are still here. Momma seems to be doing what nature intended as far as feeding and care. Ive got 1 runt, but she seems to be feeding enough and is pooping, so im just letting nature take its course. Had to give the mother some milk pills as it didnt seem she was making enough. Linger duration feedings and longer sleep times seem to indicate more milk production is occuring. I have also been mixing her kibble with plain greek yogurt to try and get her more calcium.

Ive never had pups before, and while my experience has been relatively easy compared to some horror stories ive read (hand feeding!), its still been an eye opening experience and fatiguing. I am hoping to raise all 9 to a healthy 8 or so weeks and will then find them their forever homes. Plan is to keep momma (Maggie Mae), but will see how she falls into place after the pups are gone. I do travel a bit for work and usually take my terrier with me (i drive almost everywhere, typically no flights), so she definitely changes that equation.

The alternative to NOT taking her in and giving her and her pups a proper safe place just was not acceptable to me. I hope these pups bring many years of love into their future homes.
