Well I’ll say hello to all you diesel folk. Chances are I my never get very far in tearing the engine apart but I can’t say never as things have happened before. You guys show some really nice work.

I just acquired a 1995 14B diesel in a Bandierante … I spent probably 1/2 the weekend cross-referencing filters: oil, fuel and air. Still evaluating the vehicle but I do want to change all of these elements.

Are there measurements regarding the by-pass spring in an oil filter that need to be strictly followed. I’m finding a few filters but would hate to find the oil never made it through the filter.

First of many questions:

Glass bead or buffer?

@Dusten Never thought of that… have a steamer on the shelf too…..I will give it a try

thanks

So, cleaned The housing with steam and it took off the greasy stuff… but nothing like a glass bead cabinet to bring out the real metal

@Dusten Whoa !! That’s a very different level….. old dog just learned a new trick

that is one of the best produced video tutorials I have yet to see….. thank you for informing me otherwise. I have restored dozens of vintage American motorcycles over the last 4 decades, have a skat-blast cabinet, (5 hp 2-stage compressor now 38 years old ) and never heard of vapor blasting. Where do you find this superior glass bead?

Current situation with the BJ60. First it was a head swap, then head plus camshaft.... So the engine had to come out. Inspected one main and big end bearing, trying to determine if I'm wasting my time on this engine. Put it back and carry on? Or do a more thorough refresh. Also, can somebody tell me what the circled sensor is?
