I did a search and found a few Mudders have said recently, less than a year, they obtained a windshield for >$200. I understand that I live in an area which has a premium added to almost every thing purchased. I checked two glass shops, one local and one in a town an hour away. Both quoted ~$450 for glass only not installed.

My web search also found that a windshield for a 70s jeep can be purchased for $80. 😠

So, who within 6 hours of the 4 Corners area can cut a windshield without giving me a bath?

Don't want to hijack this thread....but is anyone familiar with Bills Toy Shop in Farmington NM...which is close by here in the 4 corners? I've heard there is a vintage cruiser specialist in the area and he seems like the likely candidate. My thought here is that they might have a line on the best places for glass.

Living in the SF Bay Area, CA I paid around $200 for new laminated glass cut & installed with new OEM seals I provided. They used the old glass for a template. It's flat with no fancy curves. I know this doesn't help much but for comparison.

Look for a local glass shop in your area that could cut you one if possible. I'm next to a town of 10k. Local guy did it for $120 CAD.
I bought a template from SOR, but he said it wasn't needed as he would've just measured it out.

So, the quote was $350 for the glass and $80 for labor to cut it using the old windshield as a pattern. 1/4 inch clear laminated glass.

Bill is legit. Legend.

Don’t know if he has any interest in doing glass though.

AFAIK, he’s a mechanical guy.

That's good to know. However, the suggestion was that he may know a good source.

Why is it a kick in the pants? Well, knowing a windshield for a similar vintage vehicle of similar rarity is $80. More like a kick in the walnuts. Seems like people think 40 owners are boujee, pinky-in-the-air, grappa sippers. I'm betting most of us are looking for a fair deal. I've read a couple of times on here the response to affordability of parts was, "Maybe these vehicles aren't right for you." Some encouraging words right there.
