Best to create a jig like apparatus to keep things square then tack weld all pieces. For frame section I would put 4 tacks on the C channel then weld top flat section of C then do the bottom of other side then when area is cool to touch weld the bottom of C section of first side welded then do other side top. Checking that it does not lift or drop. A flat bar or square tube tacked to frame will help to be removed later. After it cools then weld the web of the C channel. Grind flush and tack in your fish plates. I would make the fish plates about 12'' long but maybe thats just me.Don’t body shops have a tool that can straighten a twisted frame? Just a possible option if it does end up a little off.
