I have a question for those more in the know.
I want to get the block off plate kit from lce engineering so I can desmog my truck but they are telling me that it only works with the webber carb.
There was a video once of them designing a 22r and retaining the aisin carb.
Can someone chime in?

Frame ready for work now. I am going to put in the frame patches and then paint it and get it back together quick.

Man those salty roads are hard on trucks. Cool project.

Yes they are. This wasn't supposed to be a project. Funny how it ends up being one. Pfffttt

I had to remove the crossmember and one of the bed supports to properly get this thing sorted. See here what I am dealing with.

Got some welding done, will continue today to get the left hand chassis rail sorted, then moving to the right side.

Quick note, I can weld just fine on the flat but having a bit of trouble on the vertical plane and upside down. The good thing is I got great penetration...just looks poorly. I also added a 3/16" plate on the bottom of the rail, and it's solid as can be.

quick note on the welding, one thing it took a little bit for me to see was what the puddle was actually doing, like was it melting each side and forming a key hole so to speak, or was it only getting one side. keeping a clear lens will help alot, and cheaters if needed will too. there is a some vids out there of what and where to look for the puddle. vertical and over head can be challenge for sure, if mig, try going down hill? also heat rises so you may need to turn it down some times.

A horizontal weld on a vertical surface is always tough, the J movement with more time pulling up helps the puddle stay centered but still doesn't lay right. Could use that sweet tractor to pick up one side to at least get some angle and brings things to a comfy level if you have more welding.

But looks like you are worlds better off than the rust that was there, love following along on this thread :grinpimp: I had a blue 86 pickup that was a twin to this with worse rust.. loved that thing.

Thanks for the advice. I did think of using the machine to raise one side of the chassis to help with the welding. I may use the machine to raise and tilt it when I throw a can of paint inside the frame rails.
She was a gift, so it's here to stay long term. I have had it for 12 years and been good to me. No mechanical issues really, other than maintenance and consumable parts.
I am out the door as we speak to tackle the other side.
Will post pics later.

where the orange marks are the weld did not get both sides. what you can do is grind alittle down and hit them spots again

with rusty metal it can be a chore for sure. its way better than it was before so anything your doing is helping for sure

Yep, done that. There is also a plate on the bottom of the rail so I laid a lot of weld. I filled in the areas where there appeared to be non compliance.
I fixed the pass side too. Ready for cleaning and painting. Now, a sandblast would be awesome but I am sticking to the plan.

After hours of grinding wire brushing etc, acetone cleaning, she is finally rust converted. Now we wait 8 hours before paint. I rolled it into the garage to protect from overnight dew. Tomorrow will lay paint and hopefully move on to the motor.
