Social media sucks, return to forums I say.

Its kinda falling apart,
I bought this with visions of it becoming a replacement, all those things I had done on the previous car questionably and learnt from could be done better.

Patrol front diff, because worth nothing and 9.2 centre, its been stripped of all brackets and getting laminated here.

Steering box replaced with larger patrol steering box that won't do the pitman arm delete, My old ute also had these done however it could of been done better.

Yes everything hits the everything else, back to the drawing board.

Radius arm flip is temporary and mounts only tack'd on to draw up arms and rough mock up. Chassis panhard bracket support decided it no longer wanted to be part of this ride anymore.

And that about what Im up to now, Gearbox crossmember has been ordered and is getting cut currently with 2 link brackets about 250mm further back from the existing radius arm brackets,

Still yet to decide on if it's going 80 series axle style radius arms with standard axle separation but 250~ longer or 3 link.

Also I had plans to chop this eventually into a ute transfer the 1fz turbo from the existing ute and all the other good bits, but undecided yet

New coil over position, was trying to get away with behind the diff and low for more realestate in the engine bay. Coils would hit the radius arm and the tire on full lock.

Crossmember should be here next week, then I should be able to start on the radius arms.
Probably triangulate them outwards on the diff slightly more. May also put both bushes on the back side of the diff housing for more clearance for the coil overs, panhard bracket and bumpstops.

You keeping the Patrol swivel ball and knuckles?

There's been lots of Aussie builds where the stronger high pinion patrol diff centre was used, but 80 balls and knuckles were used to build hybrid axles

The patrol swivel ball is a weakness, as is the Patrol CV/ Birf.
80 series birfs are larger and have a better range of rotation. (Used to have side by side pics, can't find them)
80 series spindles are heavier/thicker/larger and wheel bearings are bigger

Compare the necked down knuckle (red circle) on the patrol diff vs 80 series below

Ideally, yes I would be using a patrol center, cruiser side gears and 80 knuckles in a sheet metal housing.

How ever budget, and skill restraints means I’m not.
The Ute runs a complete patrol front set up and it’s been more than adequate for what I’ve thrown at it.
Also there is knuckle gussets yet to go on.

The 80 cv and axle are 1mm larger in OD on both the bell and shaft. My cvs I have are chromoly already so it kinda makes sense just to keep it as is.
Also hellfire’s are horrendously expensive in aus, that’s if you can even find them

New radius arm brackets with gearbox crossmember.
Rear raised panhard bracket.
I also can’t get rid of the Ute. I love it too much and I like the idea of a straight wagon to go away in and be the daily.
I guess I’ll just have to own 2 coil over’d 80 series.

Nice build, the shed's also mint.

Got any more pics/a writeup on your ute? Looks pretty similar to what i'm building at the moment.

crossmember showed up

Pretty tight next the master cylinder also beside the intake manifold as I wanted both hoops parallel.

Will probably get a hilux one as they bolt up and the outlets are on the opposite side.

Disregard the tacks everywhere it’s hard to hold stuff, but the bump will probably hide somewhere there.

The hoop is currently on stubs off the rail and will end up with vertical gussets between rail and hoop and along the back

Just a junka rusty Ute.
Was a red 40th anniversary auto once upon a time.
It’s actually had a 304 v8 in it when I bought it.
Manual swapped and 1hdt converted, which split a bore and I gave up threw a 1hz in with lots of fuel and boost and gave it hell lol.
Which is where we went full circle and I put a 1fz turbo back in.
Made 399.3hp at the wheels is a absolute hoot as it weighs less than a standard wagon.

300m axles front rear, airlocked, got reductions but haven’t put them in, gu patrol front axle and steer box,
Just short 10.5 bolt in shocks and hydros. 2” lift
It’s looking pretty beat up now but I’ve been some places and it has proved pretty reliable.

Truly rad, and yes social media is BS, thanks for bringing it to the forum

The Aussies used to have an awesome forum called OuterLimits 4x4. It died when social media was born. 🙁

Cheers

I think it was RMP&O, I was mostly in the Patrol section. I guy named Kingy ran the Patrol section, super cool guy. There was a TON of good info on the forum.

Cheers
