cabin air filter housing modification: calling all pros (1 Viewer)

Hi gang,

Situation: exposed existing housing. Does not have filter door. Bought panel w. door opening and door.

Problem: there is a metal piece (see attached pic below at end of post, item circled in red) on the lower left that prevents the no-door panel from sliding down under the dash trim. Looks like a ground plane type of thing.

watched all the youtube vids on the subject. Best one is....


Need: advice on how to pry to make enough room to remove panel. I don't want to break anything.

Oh, did I say nothing is easy:bang:

Few Suggestions. The Denso PN 453-1001 for $18 from Amazon comes with 2 filters and is the same thing for much cheaper. Also this is a good time to also order the little Cooler Packing gasket $14.14 PN 88578-47040 and replace the old one. This gasket ages and causes a drip leak on the feet of the passenger. Good to have weather tech floor covers.
