Didnt realize the connectors on the harness in the 4runner and the harness on the 91 motor are different. Do I need to swap harnesses, or is there a better way? The one in the truck is pretty hammered.

Thanks in advance.

Almost have the old motor out, just need to remove the bumper and I should have it.

In what I’ve read so far, I’m going to move all of the sensors and harness from the old motor to the new, as well as swap injectors.

I thought it would be plug and play but the body harness from the 4runner isn’t compatible w the harness on the motor. Still trying to figure out if the difference is due to the year or bc its a 4runner vs pickup.

Pretty happy with the outcome. There was a gasket installed by someone, but I reassembled w FIPG 103. Got the T case input shaft seal done as well. Waiting on PTFE thread sealant to put them back together.

I think I am going to go ahead and do all the gaskets on the t case while I have it out. I'll work on the harness swap and getting the old tranny out while I wait on the gaskets.

I'm considering returning the Aisin clutch kit and going OEM, and I'm interested in opinions. Anyone care to weigh in? Thanks in advance.

My '84 came to me with a Centerforce II in it. When I had the engine rebuilt I put another one in. The only downside was that it eventually cracked the t/o bearing fork at the pivot socket. I am blaming the higher force of that pressure plate, but I don't really know that it was the cause. Could have just been age or a faulty part that took a long time to fail (~150k).

In any case, I never doubted my decision to use that clutch. It was NOT a high pedal effort clutch. Even my 5' even, 100 lbs wife had no trouble with it.

Those look like super nice kits. I’ll check those out, they aren’t that much more.

I was assuming the aisin kit was a combination of rubber and metal springs. This one is all metal springs, maybe its worth keeping.

Well, ya, quality stuff. It's all I run. Never saw the need for one for the boutique clutche$$$$.

What are those blue things?

Centerforce PP's are made by Luk, it's really only the discs that are different.

Yeah I guess they are a hybrid spring. I was just thinking it was like the ones that look like bushings.

Today was able to make some progress after spending the last few weeks collecting parts. Intake and valve cover are at a metal cleaner nearby.

Crank bolt come off pretty easy.

Motor still had original plastic guides, some parts of which are in the oil pan. The straight guide was broken in the middle and around the top bolt.

Also pulled the oil pan to re-do the fipg.

Does anyone have any experience w the LCE pro oil pump? I have one that came w the truck. Its an Aisin LCE enhances for more oil pressure and volume. Also have a genuine oil pump. Not sure which to install.

Some things have happened the last week or two, but the truck itself still looks like hell 😂

One question I had for anyone who has gone to a forward shift t case is about the shifter hitting the dash in 1st, 3rd, 5th.

Im going to have to cut but wondering if I’ll need to look at a short shift kit or maybe mod the dash somehow. I’ll know when i get the shifter in, but any input is appreciated.

Welp. I think I screwed up with the timing chain install. I believe I lined up the link w the dimple on the cam gear and the crank key on the crank gear. I believe the dimple should have been down. At least from my photo

Will put the crank at tdc tomorrow and see where the cam gear is.
