Dexter turned one last week, so we went to the desert to celebrate.

Just picked up Lela from the vet.

She had a teeth cleaning today which required general anesthesia, and she really missed me.

And by that I mean it literally. When they brought her out to me she happily wobbles out to greet me and hit the counter instead. Backed up, turned a bit and finally lurched into my leg.

Now she's at home on the couch with me, stoned out of her gourd.

Do you brush her teeth with beef flavored toothpaste? I had Rosebud to the vet today and the vet commented on how great her teeth look. Rose is 5 and I brush her teeth 2-3 times per week.

Current copilot- Dove the Dog a.k.a. Noah’s Dove.

He’s a year old Lhasa Apso from well known Lhasa breeder Chic Choix out of Finland. Learned early not to name a dog after a bird when Dove jumped out of the 4Runner’s rear window @ 52mph @ 4 months old. He got a couple pins in his front driver’s side leg but healed up good with no issues.

Our last Lhasa was a very stable genius, so this guy is taking a bit to get used to.

Dove and our toddler, Noah, play all day and do well together so couldn’t really ask for more.

For those who don’t know about Lhasa’s, they’re a pretty interesting breed. They hail from the Himalayan Mountains where they are kept by Tibetan Monks inside their temples and have been for hundreds of years. They’re part of a team of watch dogs that protect the monasteries.

Outside the temple gate is the Tibetan mastiff. One of the largest dogs in the world, it ferociously guards the gate from bears, wolves and snow leopards. Inside the gate, outside in the yard, are the Tibetan Terriers (a bit bigger version of the Lhasa Apso) that deal with vermin and will go bark at the temple door if the mastiff sounds the alarm. Inside with the monk is the Lhasa Apso, the sentinel dog, that hears the commotion and goes to wake up the monk when there is trouble outside.

I think it’s a pretty cool idea to have three different breeds work together as a team. I have the Lhasa Apso now (he’s my second one- I had my first one for 13 years and he lived to be 15), but when I get a bigger property I hope to have one each of these three breeds.

The youngest after going out in the kayak yesterday.

Remington just joined our family last week. He was found on the streets of Johannesburg in February when he was about 2 months old. It was him and a brother. Someone took them into a no kill shelter and the brother got adopted out and we took this guy. I wanted a wire haired terrier pup (we need a pup because we have three adults cats that he needs to be trained around).

We don't know what kind of mix he is. Jack Russell + ??? He actually looks like a cross between a JRT and an Irish Terrier. He is bigger than a JRT at this age, but smaller than an Irish would be...
