I just acquired this fj40 in Ecuador last week. Is a 1980 with no power steering or power disc brakes. Where can get a power steering kit and a disc brake kit for it. It has a 4 speed tranny which will be replaced with a H55F, everything else will remain original.

Do you already have a new front axle? If so, what is it? Is this already state side? That info will help.

Sky Blue is going to be disassembled, the frame powder coated, and redone while is in South America. Even though this LC is a 1980, it did not have disc brakes or power steering from the factory

Ok, I think I follow. So you have the original front axle then? It's just not in the pics.

you already have power/boosted brakes, you could source a 60 front axle and swap from the knuckles out onto your existing axle housing

you would need to make sure the engine is original, if it has the holes drilled in the block for the PS pump mount. the carb is not correct for US 1980, I have no idea what general world market used

What is your plan for it? Bing it up TO new York or leave in Ecuador and use it there?

FYI power steering was an option from 1/79 in the 40 series. It was never standard equipment.

from the looks of the engine, I would start by making sure it actually starts and runs before anything else.
no distributor
coil missing
missing rad cap
etc
how long has it been sitting?

I will eventually bring it to NY, I have an FJ62 to use it down there. Here is a link to it. Just a little introduction... - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/just-a-little-introduction.1119794/
Not sure I could leave that FJ62 sitting in Ecuador all year except for a few weeks. But would not bring it to New York to be driving it on salted roads.
By your original posts on the FJ40 thought you possibly just found this one off the internet. I now see you have experience with the local market. Personally would have just imported as is if possible. But I have zero experience with anything in South and Central America. If the VIN on the plaque on the firewall is FJ40-310*** that would make the production date July 1979. Technically still a 79 model but no real difference than a 80 model. If then production date would have been 8/80+ would have made a big difference. 60 series disc brake parts would just bolt on. Newer axles that would share parts with the 60 series and early 70 series. Beefier springs and split transfer case. For your H55F you will need a 10/82+ transfer case with the fifth gear oiler. 8/80+ short well base and mid wheel base 40 series hand brake was on the rear axle. Kits from the 8/80+ long wheel base 40 series that keep the hand brake on the transfer case can be found but clearance from the torque tube behind the transfer case is an issue. Still waiting on a few parts but switching my 79 to a H55F. Will be using a 8/80+ rear axle to with the hand brake.

Looks like you have three point seat belts up front. Does your hard top have these?

US hard tops had these 1/76-2/78 when the seat belt moved to the roll bar.
