I have a 65 FJ 45 and would like to put disc brakes on it. I am being told that if it is older than 1970 there is no conversion kit available. Is this true? If this is true can a person put together a kit to do a conversion or am I stuck with drum brakes?

If you have ball/claw axles it is much more difficult. In that instance, I would source a disc brake axle or a newer drum axle with birfields and do a disc brake swap. Many options for that: FJ40 disc parts, Mini truck, FJ60, adapter kit to run GM parts on drum axle.

Read through this thread. At first, he works to restore the OEM drums front and rear.

In the end, he converts to discs:

You have a 65 FJ45, this is your 1st post... and no pics!?

Find a ft axle from a 76 or newer FJ40 and install it. You will be so much happier and it is also infinitely easier.
