I thought this little book was really cool.....seems kind of expensive though at a $1.50 :)

I like this tip......

In the 70s and 80s were there really ever any 'old' one gallon picnic jugs like the Coleman in the pic? I'm pretty sure we had the same one my entire life growing up...in fact I bet it's still in my parent's basement. Gas in that thing would have been a capital offense :)

Picking up where we left off......

So the green 40 arrived safe and sound. This one took a while...10 days I think.

In any event.....I immediately noticed how nice the truck started when the driver unloaded it. Definitely a different start(Holley carb). Smooth idle.....no smoke. Sounds healthy.

We quickly pulled it in the shop so it didn't get rained on....truck probably hasn't seen rain in 30 years. Last thing it needed is a FL afternoon downpour.

It was as good as I expected........a true time capsule.

Of course a Jeep has to be on a lift ruining an otherwise great shot. Ha.

Look at this motor. Can't quite figure out the rusted head....I'm thinking the paint might have just left the building after 40 years? Not sure why a garage kept truck would have no paint. Maybe it was pulled to be redone? Not sure. Need to dig around a bit.

World's oldest K&N sticker and air filter? Maybe.

I thought this was really cool. In one of the boxes I was sent(all the paperwork and books made it OK thankfully)....there was a bag with this key.

Sure enough, this turns the ignition. I'm guessing this was the spare 'wallet' key. Didn't know they came with them.

A Toyota part or something the PO had made?

I don't know.....wish I did. No real markings. Never thought about it being an aftermarket. It's been used...the metal insert is breaking thru :(

What a great truck, crazy story. Glad it is here in the sunshine state.
Here is the plate I found for my 73, I still have to send the info to Talley for the year of manufacture registration

What a GREAT plate for a 40. Wow! I may go browse the offerings on ebay tonight for a 74 :)

The LV gets the best of them.....1966. This one is a Hillsborough County one too....same county it's registered in.

That is awesome, the old county designation thing is cool, and that you found one for your year is really cool. I perused eBay for a while and found that one deep in the listings. Total luck and a little fate I think. My local DMV ladies have no idea how to register it with that plate, so they directed me to Tallahassee with a form to fill out. If you have a better way, PM me and let me know how, if you have time.

You’re lucky, my search ended before it began. Georgia use to replace their license plates every 6-7 years so in my case trying to source a 1982 plate is a lost cause. It’s especially frustrating that a 1983 plate is available.

Interesting. They must not have had a lot of prisoners stamping plates :)

You'll need to send it to Tallahassee but you'll want to make sure you have everything in order. I'll send you a good form letter to use.

Years ago, AAA used to make spare/wallet keys. Not saying it is one of theirs but I'm sure they were not the only business to do it.

I saw the add for your truck and posted about it in the Austin forum.

Does that winch have a motor? It looks like a light duty winch you'd mount in the front of a utility trailer.

Fun to see the transactional result of an interesting add like that.

Yeah....beginning to think this might be an aftermarket deal. Might have to do some investigating.

I haven't dug into the winch yet.....I don't think it was ever intended for a truck. I would bet the owner, 23 at the time, probably got it from somebody in his neighborhood....maybe from a boat trailer or utility trailer and bolted it on. The wiring to it is pretty entertaining.

I'll dig deeper into it and see what is going on. It does have a sticker on it and I seem to recall we were able to find some info online.

I have a few old 8274s floating around.....seems like one of those would be good for it but not sure I want to change anything. My goal is to not really do anything to this truck other than make it safe to drive.

Maybe he wanted one of these but couldn't afford one. Hickey Sidewinder. Cool.

Just loaded it onto Alex’s setup. Fit and functions very well. Will adjust the linkage once it’s in the truck. Trying to figure out if I keep the lock-out shield. Would require some modifying if that’s the case. If not I’m guessing this is as good as the “two-high” mod. My only concern is accidentally knocking it into neutral.
Nice work J & Georg.
