Some more progress was made!
Replaced the front wheel bearings, old ones were quite loose. Found lots and lots of signs of incompetence. The large 54mm nuts were probably turned by a screw driver and a hammer, the lock tab washer ears were barely turned and the loose bearings scored the keyed lock washer rather badly. Worst of all, they used FIPG instead of a proper gasket.
Anywho, put new Timken bearings, seals and even new hub flange. Got a fresh alignment to correct the steering wheel angle (it was always tilted to right when going straight). I was quoted $500 for the job, so the 2-3 hours I spent on this job was very satisfying!
Took it out for a 200 miles road trip. The rear is definitely very bumpy, I might have to try King springs instead of the LC springs it has right now.
The alignment shop did a good job of adjusting the caster on front.
