402, Shaking, rough idle, blinking CEL (1 Viewer)

1997 LX450 243K mileage. It has been throwing code 402 and intermittent rough idle, shaking on accelerating and sounds like my tail pipe is under water and my CEL starts to blink. If I disconnect battery or upon cold start there are no obvious issues. symptoms return after reaching temp and then restarting. and of course did not do it when I stopped in to say hello to the folks at Landcruiser Specialists on Thursday. I am going to order an EGR (new VSV installed couple months ago and new battery last week). and hope that helps.....?

Follow the FSM for the diagnostics of the P0402 code (P. DI-81 in the 96 manual)

It is rarely the EGR itself. It is either the EGR temp sensor or the VSV.

I don't know what your mechanical abilities are, but you should be able to work through this.
