I dropped a bunch of my PCV valve grommet into the blow off chamber a couple weeks back. So the day has come to do the removal of the valve cover and fish that grommet out. Aside from cleaning the valve cover, changing the valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals, is there anything else you recommend I do while I’m in there? I’m pretty new to the DIY stuff, but have the luxury of being able to take my time on it cause I have another daily driver.

That wasn’t the dumb question by the way. This is. Is the head gasket that thing inside the valve cover in my picture? And should I let it be or replace it while I’m in there?

No. The head gasket sits between the head and engine block. That thing inside the valve cover is an oil baffle.

No. The baffle cannot be removed without destroying it. If there is grommet debris is behind it, you will need to use compressed air or some other means to remove it.
