still working on the kids cruiser (73) but the steering still feels loose , has new tie rod ends but when we are driving on the road i havw to turn the wheel up to an inch before i get any responce , Thanks for the help also we will be posting pics soon on the progress of Wills 73
 
An inch of free play at the wheel isn't much. Have someone rock the steering wheel back and forth while you watch the steering linkage from the box to the wheels and look for anything that moves that isn't straght line linkage movement.
 
Rag joint?

As Mudrak would say, " sure it aint the loose nut behind the wheel".
 
I remember correctly, the center arm's holes are little bigger than the rest. Make sure you have no play there. Jack up both tire and have someone move the tires. I would still replace the rag joint regardless.
