did my DS door handle this weekend. i did a mcgyver tape up job when it busted months and months ago. someone recently suggested there was a drill a hole zip tie method as well.
anyway off the top of my head i though it would be useful to post a how to.
1. window in down position.
2. unsnap door card with suitable non marring tool. also take off arm rest.
3. unclip DS window controls and depress latch on connector to unplug. slide harness out back of door card.
4. stick something in to interior light in lower left and flip out the lamp housing. unplug it.
5. unscrew two bolts under armrest and one at top of handle.
6. break backside of triangular piece at the mirror trying time remove it.
7. slide door card up and out.
7A. plug window controls back in and slide window up.
8. undo two two control rods by unsnapping plastic harnesses at the interior of the handle so you are not fighting them when trying to remove bolts.
9. undo two bolts at the handle. magnetize the socket or use a magnet to make sure you don’t drop the bolts.
10. insert key and turn so the lock allows you to waggle the old unit out.
11. clean area at door behind the handle. clean that little plastic spacer part that for some inexplicable reason does not come with the handle (i guess it comes with a new lock?).
12. put old spacer and old tumbler in new latch.
re-assemble in reverse order.

black LX owners will note this handle is actually green since black DS is NLA and the aftermarket part is by Dorman and apparently (?) of questionable quality (i think)?

part numbers to follow.

Looks OK. It's close enough it wouldn't drive me bat sh!t.
Easy enough to make black. Just some masking and a rattle can away.
Probably should do it "off rig" though.
The trim pieces are available for 10-15 dollars. Just bought new ones for my rig, got tired of them being floppy.

it’s pretty close isn’t it? i was kind of going for a touch more variance but it’s overcast so i think it will change in the sun.
i’m thinking velcro on the trim piece(?). or does newer plastic hold up better?
ALSO. i need to look up this trim piece. if they don’t sell it separate from the tumbler i think i will make some...(!)
