I have often wondered what the motivation is on those import laws. I mean if someone wants a foreign vehicle and it is road-worthy up to U.S. standards, why not let them. Charge the tariffs or whatever. People would do it. I would.
I do think Toyota would be opposed to the 79 Series being readily available here. It would hurt Tacoma and Tundra sales.

I think that's the point is that we require imported vehicles to abide by our standards and making a foreign vehicle that is not marketed to the U.S. do that is a whole lot more complicated that it seems. I'm sure the almighty dollar has a lot to do with it. I was reading about this and it seems that in the 80's we were able to import pretty much whatever we wanted but then companies started realizing it was undermining their sales and they lobbied to have the laws changed.

You can also get away with putting a mask over your ass. Any dirty old mask will do. You don’t even need to wear it properly or wash your hands.
