The rear fan in my ‘77 was not working when I got it. I opened up the radiator ring and found the bottom of the motor sitting in a bit of water/coolant in the tray. I removed the motor, opened it up to inspect and found alot of dirt and gunk caked inside the casing. After cleaning it up a bit and reassembling I could get it to spin with 12v from a battery charger.
I am fairly new to the internals of electric motors and there is surely some things I will probably need before putting this back into service. Ive heard people refer to some “felt“ that needs to go somewhere around the endshafts, but I see nothing like that in mine. Maybe its just totally deteriorated. There was a chewed up looking washer shaped piece on the bottom shaft (the small tray looking thing in the picture on the shaft)
anyway, any help would be appreciated. I’d like to save as many original parts as possible. Thanks
Here are some pictures of the various components taken before I reassemble and verified it would run with 12v.
