1970 FJ40. The fan motor sort of quit on me about two years ago but I could get it turning if I "tapped" on it with a rubber mallet. This year, no such luck. I thought it might be the old wiring and/or corroded switch so I figured I could rig a new toggle switch bypassing the original dash switch. I cut the wires and tried connecting these directly to the batter positive and negative first. Still no go. If the fan is working, shouldn't a direct connection like this work? Would appreciate any input before I start looking for a new fan/motor. Thanks!

Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

@alanbl here is a 76 model year. I also have a 71, just have to locate it. Been moving my shop so lots of crates. Should be able to locate it this afternoon.
