Hello Cruiser Fanatics!
I'd like to introduce my first FJ40 which I acquired roughly a year ago. I mostly browse the 100 and 80 forums, but I figured it's time to put some time and money into my FJ40. I've dubbed this FJ40 projected neglected since I have no idea what the previous owners were thinking when they started messing with it. I don't have much information on the previous history of this FJ40, but I know it spent most of it's life in New York (aka rust). I know it has had at least 2 previous owners, since I have 2 old titles (one of them being the original buyer). I also have the original bill of sale which is cool. Anyways on to the details!
This FJ40 is a US Jan/1983 model. Apparently the previous owners, or someone along the line, attempted to de-smog the vehicle in which they ended up removing all the original equipment. Original carburetor, distributor, ignition coil, air filter housing, etc. was already gone when I purchased it. It wasn't done right as you'll see in future pictures, and they also installed a Weber carburetor. The radiator isn't original either and I don't think the alternator is as well. I've thought long and hard about sourcing all the original parts, but I've decided to upgrade the main components while keeping it somewhat stock (holley sniper, DUI distributor). Feel free to point out anything else that isn't correct!
This will be a long term project but I'm excited to begin and hopefully I'll see you guys on the trail (someday).
