Onur probably has more insight...but over 20 years ago hexavalent chromium and cadmium had to be eliminated from car parts. (The good stuff as far as corrosion protection goes - but toxic.) At the same time paint type coatings got better. I wonder at the vintage of the parts with the TEQ logo.

Generally speaking under the hood under the car you see less plating these days and more stainless steel and paint. Zinc with chromate treatment is still ok for now. But inferior in performance and likely going away some time.

I’m definitely not a materials/structural/coatings engineer so I don’t really know to be honest. The above explanation sounds quite good.

I do know that body panels come primered black, some parts that weld to frames are primered black and some are primered a grayish-taupe color (body mounts for example) and some things like door strikers and hinges are cadmium plated (rear door hinges are also the same cadmium plated style).

Funny though at the factory they are all dipped/painted at the same time regardless it seems the material used for construction.

Professional paint work completed. At least one fender will look spectacular.

Unfortunately yes for this go around due to economic factors pending in the next couple of weeks.
Bummer, but understandable. It's a tough time for those of us with ties to the aviation industry...

Real shame you don’t have many to choose from!

Great post. All PN of them in one place. This will be a great help to us all. Awesome @Onur. Much appreciated

Machine shop called and said “well, the block won’t be ready for another week. It’s still at line honing.” 2 weeks and that’s what I got. :meh: Typical of these types of places. He did say: “man! It took 10 tons of pressure to push those liners out.”

In any event, I have other s*** to do in the interim.

Don’t ever buy a truck that was formerly a plow truck at a Hokkaido ski resort. My ignorance and want of a 70 series led me to this point.

Frame correction is completed and both frames are even side-to-side. That was a lot of cutting wheels and grinding discs.

Now I need to cut down the factory circular cross-member and weld it in using new tabs. I’m a marginal welder at best. Luckily it’s thick metal and forgiving.
