I didn’t, you can add a little salt to it to make it slightly more acidic. There are a ton of YouTube videos. I can’t believe it actually worked.

It’s only slightly less amazing, and amusing, than the ‘using bread to remove the pilot bearing’ trick.

Galen, had no clue you can use vinegar to remove rust. Did you mix it with anything?

vinegar and salt. Yes salt. Works as well. Rinse well and dry.

Late breaking news: @lowenbrau found the correct brake booster for my truck, as well as the correct master cylinder. As soon as he calculates shipping, they will be on the way. STOKED.

Yes. The HZ I put in Tucker's fj40 has that nice little pan. His engine was from a 105.

I went ahead and ordered one for my cruiser along with the bolt as well. Hope it works and your post is reassuring that it will.

Two missing part numbers: oil inlet gasket 15471-58010; nuts 94180-40800. Had to reuse the nuts.

I also had to reuse one of the turbo stay bolts.

Big day today- got the 79 into the shop and the H151 bolted up to a 1HZ I had in the shop, so I could keep working on the 1HDFT. I swapped motor mounts to make sure they were 80 series, not 70 series mounts, and removed the pilot bearing from the 1HZ with the old bread trick. Time to line things up.

Sorry for the thread hijack.

Hopefully this post won't be too late for others rushing to buy the same pan for their 1HZ but the pan came in today and it doesn't work for my 1HZ. I even removed the oil filter to double check but it is just not going to work. :(

I guess some 1HZ engines have a different side oil cooler where the mounting holes vary??

Well crap, Matt. There are a ton of different oil cooler variations that I had posted about a couple of pages ago. I’ll go back and look through them and see if there are specific part numbers that have the appropriate bolt hole.

I was only able to get out to the shop for a second, but I found the HDJ79 shifter plate that I had squirreled away. It took me forever to find it in my hoarded piles of parts. Maybe I will have time this weekend to actually localize the engine and transmission.

The correct shifter plate for the H151 instead of R151 really does move the shifter forward about 3 inches. Also, note (what I hope are) the correct HDJ79 shift boots.

Boot looks like what mine looks like.

Galen I see powder coating in your future. I think my set up was less than $200. You'll never paint small parts again after you get started. The only semi expensive thing is a sand blast cabinet. It's faster than painting and waiting on parts to dry. I've actually made brackets, blasted, powdered, and bolted on all in one evening. You can't do that with paint.
Is your setup elaborated on anywhere we can read up? 😬

How is that black shifter plate mounted? Is it welded on?

No, it’s just glued/cemented in place. I need to figure out how to get the old one off without destroying it. Probably a putty knife.

It's spot welded on....you'll be drilling thru about 20 welds I think. Get a good spot weld cutter.

You can glue the new one one with panel bond. We used windshield adhesive(our go-to adhesive) and nutserts to secure ours down. It's not coming off BUT it could if it needed to.

I just found the spot welds 20 seconds ago. Yeah. Time to cut them out.

Wonder why Toyota went that route rather than the bolt in cover that uses a gasket like the older 70 series.

Score on that shifter plate “find”! Your finds ar different from mine. IIRC that gets you really close to the existing motor mounts doesn’t it?
