Gday guys how are we. New on this site.
I have a 96 80 series Landcruiser 1fzfe
I’m having problems with ruff ride and handelling.
experiencing harsh handeling off road
Driving on a dirt road that has ripples or little rocky bits and little holes in the road hitting it all getting very rough ride at front and rear where it feels like it’s bouncing over them. And don’t feel nice at all.
On road same thing fine in roads that are new but soon as I hit bumps or s*** on the road it gives me a rough ride! I have no idea what’s going on.
And can’t seem to be able to fix it. Or find the problem. I feel as the car has bricks and no suspension

details of the 80 and what iv done.
So it’s got a 4” lift that I brought second hand about 5 or more months ago.
they are Flexi coils I’m pretty sure and they are very heavy rated springs.
I have tough dog adjustable shocks that also are second hand. Rear shocks are Efs extreme also second hand with the kit.
Running 5deg caster plates. arb bull bar winch roof top tent rear draws all set up. Pretty much everything I need.
I am running 37s also note that it drove the exact same on 33s 35s and now my 37s

I have gotten numerous wheel alignments wheel balances and so on.

I had stripped the hubs front and rear and rebuilt the Swivel hubs with all new koyo bearings and so on.

I put it together exactly how I removed it and just tightened the swivel hubs all up right. And check left and right for feel. And feel ok I guess.

there’s no play in wheel bearings
No play in king pins.

Panhard busheshave been replaced.
no cracks that I can see around steering box or panhard mount.

Control arm bushes look new.

could any one point me in a direction to fix or where to look to find the problem.
Could it be shocks worn out or springs ect

Really wanna fix it and get it back to its nice driving state.

Thanks guys

here a pick of my 80

How high is the air pressure in the tires?
I drive sand roads around here with bad chatter from grading, at 32-35 psi, it'll rattle the fillings out of your teeth.
At 25-28psi, it smooths out to comfortable, and 20-25 psi its very smooth riding.

That's a pretty vague set of symptoms - essentially a harsh ride. I suggest you bring it to a 4WD specialist and ask if someone has 15 minutes to take it for a drive and see what's going on. One comment is that it looks like your tires are at a very high pressure and if so there is no suspension in the world that will ride smoothly with rock hard tires. Other than that, I'd just be guessing. But if you can get someone capable of feeling what is going on into the driver's seat you will get good advice.

Tyre pressure is at 35 mate

Iv taken it to a few and they all trying to say to me
Ah we will have to spend a few hours to see what’s going on

Yea, kinda hard to tell from the description but it looks like you don't have anything installed to move the rear panhard bracket back to closer in the intended angle?

Mud vendor DeltaVS makes a bracket specifically for this.

I'm running very old OME suspension with also about 4 inches of lift and while I was skeptical that the bracket would help, or perhaps more importantly be worth the coin, after install my rig drives incredibly better over similar terrain. Def worth it!

The stance on your rig looks pretty spot on IMO. I don't know enough about the inner workings on shocks but I'd expect some droop somewhere if they or the springs were totally shot.

Yeh I’m not sure mate I mean even when it was stock no lift it still drove the way it does over bumps

This is the product I'm talking about. There's a pretty lengthy thread in this forum about it and reviews are pretty much all good.

Thanks mate do they also make one for the front

Not that I'm aware of. Not sure I've ever seen a thread talking about it for the front.

If you're saying it drove this way stock (before the changeover of shocks, coils, and everything else) then I'm a bit stumped. That pretty much rules out the suspension being the issue (although that rear bracket would def help with your lift).

Have you driven other 80 series cruisers for comparison? Even with that bracket my rig is still a heavy pig that drives as such. Some of it just comes with the territory.

Nah I’m guessing maybe that’s how it rides I no that the old suspension was rooted. so maybe I’m leaning towards new shocks to see if that helps

I'll also add that airing down makes a huge difference for me as well. I run the same 35 psi on the road but if I'm going to be on dirt for any decent stretch I drop it down to 25. 15-20 for harder wheeling.

I won't leave pavement with more than 14psi in my 37" Cooper STT Pros.

Gotta say, looks like you've done some research on your own, good job.

Dobinson's Flexi coils are actually a fairly soft spring, and what I would have recommended if you had asked 'What should I buy?' before lifting your truck- if you were running a light load. That does not look to be the case. I suspect the upper wraps of your coils are touching, which would result in you not getting all the benefits of 'dual rate' coil springs. Still, I would try some other approaches before changing out your springs.

You could remove the shocks entirely and not see any change in the truck's stance. Shocks do not provide lift or support, they dampen movement. I have no experience with the shocks you are running, but shocks are the second place I'd be looking to improve ride comfort. Have you tried the softest and stiffest settings to see if it makes a difference?

But first, get yourself an air compressor and lower your air pressure off pavement.

Id say its your lift and tire pressure. Heavy duty springs ride rough when the truck isnt loaded with weight. Hell they ride rough with weight.

What tires do you have?

My thoughts on my 80 was that is also rode generally "stiff." When I bought it, it had old blown out CARQUEST bruiser shocks on it with oem springs (no lift). it rode stiff to me that way. I put on the oem Tokico shocks, and I still felt like it rode stiff, but was at least more planted and predictable.
I'm still running the Tokicos but have added Dobinsons c59-222v c59-223v combo (rear may be 221v I can't remember, but I did consult Crikey Mike). The ride is now much less harsh, A railroad track I go over fairly often is no longer exciting when taken at or above the speed limit.

thanks mate yes I have dampened my shocks they were too bouncy then I had stiffened them up and drove good for about 2 weeks then back to normal. Haha. What pressure should I run tbem
Off-road and on road
