I have been doing some research on installing a gentex mirror to get some nice creature comforts like homelink, compass, and outside temp. It appears the Nissan Armada and Titans are a good choice to grab one from the junkyard. I am curious though for those of you that have done this is there anything special about the temp sender wire? Do I need to try to get the entire wiring harness from the car or can I just cut the sensor out then splice in a wire when I install it in my LC?

Nothing special with the wire as far as I know. I grabbed a gentex off eBay that came with a matching sensor. I just added my own wire to run it up to the front grill area. Worked great.

Awesome that's what I was thinking, but wanted to be sure. It would be a pain in the butt to have to get the entire harness from the junkyard..

Butane torch and screwdriver.

DONT catch it when it falls off!

LOL sounds like something I'd do.. Only once though ;>)
How do you think he knew that to tell someone else?!?!?!? 🤔

You can find them in almost all the chevy suburbans and trucks I just clipped the wires as far up as I can. Think pick apart charged me like 15 bucks for them

Anyone ever look for a mirror from a Toyota? I took a test drive in a 05 tundra and it had auto dimming and the temperature in the top right corner. Didn't look at it very closely to see if it was a gentex

Most everything I looked at in the junkyard was a gentex of some sort. The best vehicles to look at are Infiniti and Nissan from what I could gather. If you find a Gentex 313 or 453 (even better) with the square display you will have temp and compass along with home link I ended up with a 313 model nzlcthl3. Everything seems to work from my initial testing except for the fact that the temp seems to take an extremely long time to update to the proper temp. Not sure if that is normal or not. Some things I have noticed the buttons on the 313 wear off pretty easily this was fixed with the 453. I had to touch mine up a bit where the paint had worn off. The compass\temp will dim when dark and brighten up in the sun. They are pretty easy to take apart which I did because the temp\compass window was dirty behind the glass which I was able to clean up with a microfiber cloth.
The wiring is pretty basic on mine I have 5 wires. Which are ground, constant 12v (required to make homelink work, this way you can operate the garage door car off, 12v switched and two wires to the temp sensor. Let me know if anyone knows if it takes a long time for their temp to adjust on their mirrors.. Wondering if mine is not working correctly.. If not I can return it and get a different one..
Here are some pics..

I bought mine off ebay, I believe it’s a custom Gentex 453 with Homelink and hidden compass and temperature displays. It came with a sensor and I just used my own wires to wire up the sensor. Works great.

How quick does your temp actually update?

I haven’t noticed any significant lag. What symptoms are you experiencing?

I have not gotten it installed yet, just bench testing inside my home. It took it several hrs to go from 48 degrees (garage temp) to 75 degrees (indoor temp)

I just did a test by placing an ice cube on the sensor. The temp dropped from 26C (79F) to 16C (61F) in a span of 4 minutes. Maybe you could do an ice cube test on your sensor and see how fast the temp drops?

I'll give it a try.. Thanks for the info! Also how long did it take to come back up to temp? Any chance you have that info?

Just tried this and my temp went down from 73 to 58 in less then 30 sec.. Then went back up pretty quick as well maybe a min it was back to 73.. Looks like it is working. Not sure why it was taking so long last night.
