Rebuilding my knuckles on FJ62. I used the same shim thickness top as bottom. Pre load is 7 lbs.
Two questions:

1. Is the pre load amount OK? I will be using 37 inch tires.

2. Can I assume that the knuckle is centered because I used the same thickness on both the top and the bottom or do I need to used the centering tool?

Use the same shim thickness that was on it assuming nobody already messed them up.
 
That's the problem. I put the exact same ones on and there was almost no resistance. I don't believe who ever did it before me did it right.
