I'm nearly finished changing my diff ratio to 3.7 and just wondering if anyone knows the part number for the speedo gears to suit 3.7? I currently have the 32:12 speedo gears which suit the 4.1 diff ratio but I know the 80 series also came out as 3.7 diff ratio in certain countries/models so I'm assuming there should be a different set of speedo gears to match right? I already have the transfer apart to fix up a couple oil leaks so was just hoping to swap out the gears now while it's all apart instead of having to wire up and purchase one of those electronic speedo correction boxes.

From looking up this PN on Partsouq it appears this is a 33 tooth gear, 33403-69245

Cannot make out the tooth number on any of the other options. Did not see any other options for the worm gear part though.

33 tooth gear would make my problem even worse. I've found a part 33403-69225 for the 31 tooth gear which will help slightly but still no where near enough to fully correct for the 3.7 diffs.

Edit: looks like what I found was 60-series stuff... deleted.

@IoN6 Haha you'd think that wouldn't you, just got off the phone to my local toyota spare parts GURU and he had no bloody idea what I'm talking about and couldn't understand what I was trying to do. Hopeless...

Success!! I just need to order the 14:31-33 gear 33481-60120 for the output shaft and keep my original 32 tooth on the speedo drive sender to get it back to correct speed.

Where did you find that?

Cool, i didnt even know this was an option. Can order the gears to correct speedo for bigger tires as well.

Yes there is lots of options to get the required ratio you are after. The gear on the speedo drive itself can be either 31, 32 or 33 tooth and the worm gear on the output shaft can be 11,12,13 or 14 tooth. So just work out the ratio you need and order to suit.

[warning]
I am a little math challenged...
[/warning]

So, if I am ~.9 off (if I am going 70mph, it is actually 77 or if I go 100 miles, it is actually 110) how would I go about figuring out what combo I need?

Well first you'd need to know what speedo gear ratio combination is in there to start with so you can reduce a set amount from that? I had 4.1 diffs and swapped to 3.7 so that's a 0.4 ratio change. My original speedo gears had 32:12 ratio which is 2.66 so I needed to get this 0.4 lower which is 2.26. With the new 32:14 ratio I'm at 2.28 so that's close enough for me.

If your speedo is showing 70mph but you're actually going 77mph than that's pretty much the same correction I needed. I'm sure there's some fancy equation to work this out quickly and easily but I couldn't find it.

Bugger! Just got a email from Amayama saying they can't source this part :( Does anyone know where else I might be able to get the 33481-60120

I'm doing a bit of a thread revival, this thread came up in the "weekend" thread.

Does anyone know what gear ratio or combination comes stock in a 1992 US FJ80? with factory 4.11 gears for the speedo drive gears?

I'm on 40's (and 42's for winter) and my speedo is 2/3 of actual speed, (i.e. im moving 60mph when it says 40) so i don't think ill get where I need to be, but at least closer by swapping to furtherst ratio.

Also, is there any compatibility issues with the 91-92 versus 93+ models?

Edit: doesn't seem to be compatibility issues between different years, it looks like I'm wanting a 33481-60120 (14 tooth worm gear) to spin a 33403-69255 (31 tooth) gear, not sure on the compatibility of these two gears though..

Can you put your vin in partsouq and see what part number was stock for your vehicle? I think there is information by part number regarding what tooth number was stock and the worm gear "tooth" number also

Yes, that's how I found the part numbers on mine are the 12:32
