Help rehabing turn signal (1 Viewer)

My 66 has one intermittent and slightly loose turn signal - the older round kind. I'm assuming there is something loose/worn inside the house causing the intermittent function. I've tried turning the nut, but it won't budge. Right now, I'm holding the housing while I'm trying to turn the nut, and I'm afraid I'm going to break the house. Is there anyplace to put another wrench on the thing?

They’re still available new from Toyota. Don’t worry about it.

Chances are the nut is rusted to the shaft. I think that the housing end of the shaft is just held in place by the housing, so not much in the way of strength.

Splangy is correct, the lights are still available. If you don't want to mess with a dealer that tells you they are NLA (because they don't know how to find the part no.) @cruiseroutfit has them for a reasonable price:

Note that the ground path for the light is through the shaft, into the steel fender, into the steel frame. Any corrosion (or fresh paint) between the shaft and the frame could make the connection intermittent. A loose nut on the shaft would also result in a problem.

Thanks for info. I bought two from cruiser outfitters. The ground is good, i think the wire is loose in the bulb holder - and it doesn’t appear the bulb holder is repairable. So, two new turn signals.

Shrewd decision. They won't be available for ever, and now you'll be good to go for quite a while.

The picture appears to have two wires, so would it be safe to assume it has its own dedicated earth?

Yes there is, the white-black is earth. I have the similars waiting for installation, these are very cheap, only $28/pcs, original genuine Toyota, made in Japan.

Oops, yes, white/black is ground. Early ones must only be directionals, no marker light like later models. My 73 has two wires, directional and marker, no ground wire, since it grounds through the fender.
