Nice Joe!!! How long have you had her? Clean! Are you liking the motor? Often debate these as a daily, diesel and 4 door, still haven’t seen the price gouging, but hear not nice things about the heads especially.

I got the 77 back in August. I've not had any issues with the 2LT engine.

I picked it up in St Louis and drove it back to CT.

Based on what I've read, most that old have probably had the head replaced. Mine does not run hot but I added "water wetter" to the coolant.

It has been fun. It is splitting my daily driving with the FJ Cruiser.

Still need skids and sliders, that is next.

Not Cruiser related but I spent a few hours on Mon building a new clutch cable for my Nissan. Necessity is the mother of invention. Stock cable snapped in my driveway. Tried to buy a new one at an auto parts store w/ the help of a ride from my neighbor but it was the wrong one. Didn’t want to ask for another ride later in the day for the right part so I got creative w/ parts I had kicking around. First two pictures are stock broken cable.

I had cable leftover from an ex who took them off his seaplane pontoons. It was the same thickness and in decent shape. I made crimps from steel c clips meant for binding together animal cages bent around a drift punch. Squeezed tight w/ a vice grips and welded inplace. I cut the threaded end off and welded it to the new cable crimps I made as well.

Went and bought the autozone one last night to have as a spare but so far my fabricated cable is holding.
Last two pics are the ends from the stock cable shown w/ the ends I made and welded on.

If it’s not completely obvious, I’m thoroughly impressed w/ myself. :)

So I recently found broken pistons after a whim compression test reveal 2&5 lower than when I had the head rebuilt two years ago.
This past weekend I pulled the block by myself. I’m damn proud I did this alone... I’m not a big person but I got creative and was able to pull the hoist back easily (it’s a borrowed huge hoist) w/ a 4’ length of 2x4. Just kept wedging it under the bar parallel to the front crossmember and pulling back. Literally was no sweat.
Since pulling I got it on a stand last night. Again just me. :)
If it wasn’t for mud I’m sure I would never have gone this far. That and I love this stupid hunk of 32 year old crappy Japanese metal.
Many think I’m crazy because I don’t use air tools or much else powered. I prefer the stength of my hands, a pry bar or adding various lengths of pipe to my wrench handles. For me, I feel I’d break stuff if I used power. Don’t get me wrong, I do have a 18v impact wrench and I do now have a nice old air compressor but so far this is what’s worked for me.
That’s how I got the HB nut too.
Just thought I’d share. Wish I was out running trails w/ the club but instead, here I’ll be this summer spending all my free time deep in this engine, again. Honestly, I love it and who could ask for a better homeschool project than this?! Lucky little boy of mine. He’ll be blown away when he gets home and sees what his Mom did this weekend (as well as I worked 3-11 both Sat and Sun too)!

At least it was clean when you pulled it!!!!
Clean? Not quite. The block and the BH have an easy 1/8” layer of grim on them.
