So getting back to that pic I posted of the weird GM alternator mount. I think mine was originally a mount for a generator and modified for the GM unit? What is the normal F135 alternator mount supposed to look like? I want to go back to the OEM Denso alt.
My alt mount:

Sometimes the cruiser gods shine down their crusty old light down on thee. Came across a FREE F135 engine listed locally. I could not believe it. Guy had been trying to get rid of it for 2 years. Showed up and it was in way better condition than I expected. @Kleatus was generous enough to volunteer his valuable time and know-how to get the engine to my house. Truly an awesome dude, owe him big time.

Been sitting on its side for a few years in a shop but turns over and looks like it would fire up with it had spark and gas.... and maybe an oil pan. Looks like all the original bits are there. Even has the exact same D-40 carb that Clifford already has which is super awesome:

Looks like the engine has a build date of 12/16 1966. Story is the guy I bought it from acquired it for a project that never happened. It came from a low milage 40 that was wrecked by a man's son. Dang kids.

Had a little bit of time with Clifford when I visited CA. Had issues with getting it running well due to a potential distributor issue. Still had a chance to do some needed maintenance.
Added a awesome reproduction rear Toyota sticker from @oregon fj

Changed out the incorrect spark plugs:

Changed the oil and fuel filters (thanks @beno for the correct parts!!! ):

And when I got back to Seattle the new plates were waiting for me!

So a few issues I need to correct before I can drive it back:
1. Get the spare dizzy professionally refurbished. I had issues with a bb on the flywheel jumping around when I was trying to set the timing. I could hear the dizzy making some odd sounds. I am sure its worn out and in need of some repairs.
2. Replace the ball joints on the shifter linkages. The shifting is pretty bad so that needs to get taken care of.
3. Get new tires. I was going to get the tires done this trip, but the cruiser wasn't going to make it there.
4. Replace thermostat and hoses.

Picked up a pair of these hardtop side pieces today. A big thanks to @Kleatus for looking out for me and sending me the FS ad. Still not 100% sure which direction I'll go top wise (soft top vs hardtop), but the price was too good to pass up. Essential parts for the dizzy rebuild and shifter linkage ball joints have been ordered. Once I get the dizzy rebuilt I'll need to figure out when I can fly back down and get the show on the road.

I may have dizzy parts? I definitely want to “get the show on the road”. I have a few ideas of which tools we should need.

The parts should get to me this week (package alert was sent to me today!) but thanks. The early dizzy doesn't have a lot of cross over with your fancy 2F stuff :D . I was thinking of having it professionally redone but that would set it back by a couple weeks.

Just read your thread— love this story and looking forward to the next update. Am biased but love the FSTs. Obviously, since Seattle rains or is otherwise wet 300 days a year (unlike San Diego where it never rains except tonight), you will need to keep your 40 garaged/covered. Happy you found your 40; the big smile on your test drive spoke volumes.

Yeah Clifford will live in a garage most of the time. So a top is not a huge priority, but would be nice. Given the scarcity of hardtop parts, I'll probably go with a soft top at some point. @Kleatus and I were toying with the idea of making our own soft tops. There is a good thread on here with a pattern.

Awesome story and glad you have been reunited with your first cruiser. You see many on here post “i wish I had it back”....including me.
Congrats, I look forward to seeing you getting it up & running well again and getting it home.
I Agree with your first post, Roger is a good dude! He’s helped me out alot over the years.

Curious, what solutions have people found to replace this rubber "seat" for the column shifter?

Mine is all degraded or chewed up. Hope someone found a good solution to a bad one? Thanks for any help.
