I just don’t see that much more capacity and capability than a well built out 1hzt or hdt Trakka style Troopy. Yes it’s fancier and a ton more modern slick looking but im still seeing 1-2 person max in both. Throwing $75k at a Troopy platform would make me just as happy and 95% as capable. Jumping to 150k I think opens up a lot more capacity and Mog based options for people with the wherewithall for putting something together. for those who work hard tho- and want something delivered to their driveway ready to go.....it may be one of the few very solid options out there in this niche of a market,

So is there ever going to be actual information about these as a product? Right now we have mostly a lot of speculation, a few pictures, and some cruel teasing from @LandCruiserPhil.

USA website under construction.
There are over 300 Maltec cabins on several platforms in Europe today.

Im heading to the factory in Germany the 1st week of November and will bring back pic of the operation.

Maltec owners are young with a no limit attitudes and the skills to implement it.

I should buy a Troopy in Nicaragua and bring it back.. but most of them have lead a rough life.. its cool that they make a pop top for them too!

Didn't I see a double cab HZJ79 Maltec somewhere? That is my ultimate dream rig. I will own one someday!

They have done them but not in the US

▼Single cab▼ this is an huge attention whore anywhere you go. These are complex builds from the ground up making it very costly for the US.

I'd be interested in providing the 200 and then having Maltec throw on a bare-bones pop-up shell. And then I'd do a DIY interior.

If it ever happens Im first:D

Total Composites will do it but its not carbon fiber:(

The first time I saw one of these it made me wanna cut the back off my Troopy and convert it! Since then I’ve been reading up on conversions and I’m still excited about the prospect!!

Right now the only option is to send a US vehicle to Germany convert it and send it back. There will be some over the top trucks for sale at EXPO West 2019.

Convincing the wife to that would be a hard sale. Now me doing the work myself, she'd say it’s your car do what you will. :D

Maltec question — do your bedding/pillows stay in the camper area full-time or do you store it "downstairs"?

Everything stores upstairs but I do use a collapsible pillow

After spending a few weeks with and a few days in it is a crime the D4D is not available in the USA

This rig was the killer in the sand dunes of Tunisia. We referred to it as a jet fighter with afterburners the only limit is the person behind the wheel and the owner drove it like he stole it. Believe me when I say a Maltec 200 series can fly and keep going without issue.

One of my favorite Maltecs as I drive along dreaming of owning one outside of the Valley of Gods.

80 series 1HTD with a 5 speed fully locked

I love it, the graphics on the 200 series are really nice. Curious, the wheels on the cruiser above 16's or 17s? For those wondering, Braid has a a US distribution setup in Michigan right outside of Detroit.

Or it is up the dunes .
Tunisian sand dunes are among the most difficult in the Sahara region , small and bastards .

The 80-100-200 are all very comfortable cars , and very capable off road as well .
A conversion to a pop up roof for making a camper is fine , but ....
What is missing from my point of view is the inside volume direct pass way ,and wheel base .
Troopy is unbeatable on these points .
I see a very good product in the German makers , but for the car base would go all day on a troopy.
For overland , you don't need super power , or high travel suspensions ,or huge wheels .
Much more important capacity of cargo and interior space .

Just my 400.000 km travel experience in overlanding opinion .
Others may well see it differently.

Bye Renago
