You do not need your own compressor to get by at HIH. Having your own is nice but not a necessity since so many people will have some kind of air up capability. Depending on your trails and how much pavement driving you will do, you'll likely just stay in the low-20's the whole weekend. One exception would be if you're driving all the way to Ouray, I'd probably go back up to something over 30. The road between Silverton and Ouray is not a place you'd want to have a blowout or a tire unseat itself.
Perfect, sounds like I'll just leave at 20ish when I get there and just use the gas station when I go to Ouray. (Gotta hit Wiesbaden, if you haven't you really need to.)

Ok, hey all.

So, if anyone gets to Moriarty and has gas left in the tank and wants to go further. My wife and I and the kids are spending Wednesday night in "Clear Creek Campground". It's about an hour and a half north of Albuquerque. Cost is $10 but it's more if you reserve ahead. However, all the campsites are currently available on Wednesday night. I know most of you are spending the night in Moriarty, but figured I would just let y'all know of another option just in case. It also looks like there are lots of trees, so a quick hammock camp would do the trick if you're solo.

Cheers,

Thanks for the info. Will you still want to meet us in Durango for lunch?

@geanes have you decided whether you’ll meet up with us Thursday AM or go a more scenic route?

I will need to get a fishing license and some flies in Durango and I am sure others will need to get provisions. We will decide on a rally point at lunch to make the final approach into HIH

As of now that is still the plan. This just lets us be a little more leisurely into Durango. Not to mention, I am in the same boat as @TXSunDevil. I want to pick up some local fish food.

Anyone running down 287 I am about 8 miles West of Wichita Falls if anyone needs anything or just needs to stop and get a coke or a tea.

Just an FYI, that campground is in the Santa Fe National Forest. The entire SFNF has been closed to all access since June 1 due to fire danger. They are supposedly lifting the restrictions on Monday but you should still be prepared just in case the forest remains closed and/or the campground is not fully opened by then. If you don't have a reservation, I highly recommend you call the Santa Fe National Forest (Cuba Ranger District) to confirm that the campground will be open on Wed. night.

@atnolan94 .... I've got to head up early. Just got a work commitment that requires me to fly to Chicago on Monday 7/16, so I'm heading up early to make up for the missed Monday trail day. Heading out this evening and arriving in Silverton in the early AM tomorrow. My uncle is in Durango for July and August, so will head down to see him on Thursday morning. Could meet up anywhere in Durango and caravan back to Silverton with the crew.

Here's my contact info:

No problem, thanks for the update see you there Thursday!

What time are folks planning to depart Moriarty on Thu?

I don't want to hold people up and based on my past history of getting out town on time. I'm not likely to depart when I want to. Plus, I drive really slow towing my trailer. Just trying to get a sense of whether or not I will see the TX caravan passing me on 550. If I leave by 7:30, there is a decent chance we will see each other. I will be coming up through Rio Rancho and will connect to Hwy 550 just west of the town of Bernalillo (by the Santa Ana Casino) I will be on CB Channel 40 (like FJ40) if I see other Cruisers. Does anyone have HAM radio? If so, I could turn it on to 146.46 if there's any reason to have it on. I leave the radios off most of the time because they just make lots of noise unless I'm in range of people to talk with.

I'm already seeing a lot of you guys running down 287. Makes me jealous.

@geanes @Ouray19 There are three of us northwest bound this am. Is lunch in Durango still a go? I put a place called j lo on my calendar for today. Either way we will be passing thru shortly before lunch time
Yo! Kids woke up early, we are at a hotel in Farmington/Bloomington area. Wife is in the shower now, then we are going to grab some breakfast, but then head that way. Probably be on the road by 7:30-8:00 ish which will put us in D around 9:15-9:30. But we plan on hanging out in Durango, this morning, maybe go to a park, I want to jump into a fly shop, my wife forgot to pack the independence beer, so I need some provisions (she had a lot to remember, I'm going easy on her haha).etc. What time are y'all passing through Bloomfirld?

My guess is we will pass thru roughly 1130. Glad to see you surface. When you mentioned flight change I crossed my fingers yesterday  I need to get a fishing license and hope to have time to find some flies

Yeah, it was a weird day yesterday. I woke up in Nebraska, boarded a plane in Iowa, had ice cream in Minnesota, hopped in the car with my wife in New Mexico, and went to bed 10 miles from the Colorado line lol. I'll keep checking back on here for updates from you guys. Safe travels and good vibes, talk soon.

We are an hour and a half away from Durango. @geanes @Ouray19 will you be joining? No worries if not.

We're here hanging out at a playground. What's the name of the restaurant again? We may start eating a few minutes before y'all arrive so we can spare you from the tornado that is children eating
