Got a package today. Group 27 battery tray, hardware and shims. I can't believe Toyota still has this stuff manufactured. Glad they do though. I also got a second cig lighter for accessories. Still trying to figure out how to install the radio.

Yeah, yeah wise guy. They don't have a fitment kit that uses the factory ears. I'm trying to bend the post mounting ears back but that's proven difficult so far. Plus the face plate doesn't precisely fit the opening which is frustrating. This might end up being "good enough for the trip" install then figure it out properly later.

Pic for reference.

I remembered yesterday my windshield hinge was broken. So I figured I would change it today. I knew it was going to be a pain in the A$$; but holy $hit. I used Croil and heat and every captured nut twisted and ripped the holder off on the Passenger side. Drivers side came right out.
Just the opposite with the window side. Ended up breaking one bolt and striping anouther on the window frame.
Planed on painting it when I was there but ran out of time.

Taco ready to role!

I need to grow up and get some air tools. No garage is tough though. A puma 12v compressor might be in the cards at some point.
I did my o2 sensors this Friday. Jacked it up in front of my house and went at it. I used WD40 specialist rust penetrator, hammer, flat head screwdriver, small chisel, dremel with extension and cutting disk, and lots of patience...took me like 3 hours to take the nuts out. I sprayed it with WD40 just before starting (not recommended, but the WD40 is good stuff), then tapped them with screwdriver, then chisel, then made some groves with the dremel, then some more tapping...and they were out. Nuts were 27 years and rounded from corrosion. At first it seems that it is not possibe, but it can be done. That said, I think it is worth paying someone to do it if the nuts are in really bad shape. I did mine, but would not do another set in such bad shape. Good luck!

Hard to tell why 3rd gear wasn’t holding.

This is what just came out of my rear brake circuit. Yum. I have new wheel cylinders and shoes waiting for me at Napa. Should I try and tackle this before the Relic Run or just put some new fluid in and run it? I can't seem to turn the adjusters on the cylinders now. Should they be easy to turn?

Ok good. I was hoping I'd get that response. :) I'll pick up the wheel cylinders and shoes anyway. Maybe a project for another tech day.

throw the wheel cylinders and a couple quarts of brake fluid in your 40 for the trip... If you don't, you will surely blow one out.
If they're gonna go, what better time than on a long road trip?

So what's it mean when you hit the brake pedal and it sounds like you're stepping on aa soccer ball with a hole in it and the "Brake" lamp on the dash goes on? I drained the rear brakes and put fresh fluid in using the motive power bleeder. Started with left rear then did right rear.

Air still in there maybe? Are these trickier than discs to bleed?
