80s With Canoes (1 Viewer)

This is from the last summer, Stock 80 minus the super cheap amazon roof racks.
We sideload it but I'll have to see how the wife does not that we have the lift and some new tires.

It’s a great boat. Zero issues with it and only tipped it once. It’s a very stable boat. My son and I fish, standing up, in it quite a bit.

They aren’t cheap but they are worth the money.

is yours the 14 or 16ft model and double ended or square stern? No issues with the Inti rack? I just think of the front being really high and I haul 'em a few hundred miles. thanks.

14’. I have an add on cross bar that @reevesci aka Trail Tailor made for me when he built my rack. It clamps on and tightens down with Allen head screws. This brings it up closer to level. I have Malone pads on the bar that make it easier to slide it up on the rack.

I haven’t had any issues with driving with it. I regularly drive 100-200 miles with it strapped down with two ratchet straps.

Mine is double ended. I have the trolling motor attachment that can be removed/added on.

Here it is loaded up. I guess I used three ratchet straps. Pretty close to level.

LSJ1FJ40 thanks so much for the additional pics and info. I'll call Trail Tailor and see if he can get me a similar rear bar! I've been looking at the Sportspal for years.

I use a Yakima rack with 1A Raingutter Towers. I have a set of Load Stops that help keep things from moving side to side, but if you use good straps, it's not going anywhere. The boats in this pic are a Wenonah Minnesota II in Kevlar ultralight and a Bell Infinity in Back Gold Carbon/Kevlar. Total weight on both boats is under 100 lbs, so the truck barely feels them even in high winds.

Thule makes a 78" square bar. That's the same as the Yakima length. Yakima does a 48", 58", 66" and the 78" bars for the old roundies. Thule does a 50", 58", 65" and 78" bar. You need 78" to fit two boats in most cases.

The ones in the pic are 78" round bars attached to 1A raingutter towers.

Not an 80 but at least close in the lineup. 89 FJ62 with Old Town Camper sitting on Thule bars mounted to 1980s Con-ferr rack. The long 7'3" rack really spreads out the load and makes it solid up there. It would normally have bow/stern lines for travel.

Ok. not a canoe. That's a 10'6 SUP on the prinsu, with a single cam strap at the fat point, and an '86 Hobie Holder 14 (The Hawk's Trident) on the rusty barge trailer.

Note the extensive rehab I did on the front part of the trailer...wire wheeled it for a hot second and dusted it with a light coat of rusty metal primer...that reflects about 5 minus of work, 8 months ago. Works great for the 2 mile journey to the boat ramp. I'm pretty sure the wheel bearings are lubricated exclusively with metal flake and rust powder.

It does have brand new, submersible LED lights (only the best.)

I'm not going to talk about the faded blue gel coat on the boat either...it'll buff right up...I know.
Nor am I going to talk about the gold wheel caps...those have been painted...finally

And yes, I use an inflatable shark as a warning flag. It was red at some point, it's now pinkish.

Here's a picture of my 80 with my 16' Old Town Family Camper canoe on top. It's very stable and pretty light ( about 65 lbs) so it's easy to load and carry. (I had bow and stern lines on there, I don't know why they don't show up in the picture)

do you use your old town Camper for fishing? i have same model but is yours a 15 or a 16?

18' We-non-ah Kevlar Spirit II on a Tradesman roof rack. Very easy to load and unload by myself as the canoe is actually very light and it travels well up on the roof
