Copper State Cruisers - Monthly Phoenix Meeting
Friday, February 23, 2018
Tempe, AZ

First-Time Guests
  • @Ken in AZ Ken owns a '93 FZJ80 with around 250k miles that has been in his family for 21 years (when his family bought it, the truck was only 4 years old). The truck has been passed around the family between cousins and other family members, and now it's his. He also used to be big into the ASA4WDC, and used to be the President, but hasn't been involved in a while.

First-Time Members
  • None

Run of the Month
  • February - @Saddletramp organized and led the Presidents' Day long weekend adventure over the Mojave Road. A long trip over President's Day weekend has become what seems to be an annual event. As Steve wasn't able to attend this meeting, @LongDuck and @Otter provided a very detailed trip report. There were 13 trucks that attended this run, and it was an excellent adventure, although there were some unexpected setbacks (mostly weather-related) which cut off the last planned night of camping for most folks. High winds made for an interesting last full day of the trip, so many people opted to drive all the way back to the Valley on Sunday evening, although a brave bunch did manage to find a cramped but sheltered-enough camp spot on the way back near Kingman, AZ. That group woke up early to an impending snowstorm (flurries already falling) so nobody was able to sleep in as they had hoped. Overall the weather was great for the first couple days of the trip, although the first night of camping was a bit chilly. The daytime temperatures were beautiful, and there weren't any real major issues with any of the vehicles. For more information and pictures, see the trip thread.
  • March - @yjeff will be leading a run down to Nellie E Saloon Desert Bar. More details to come.
  • April - @Chrismanjs will be leading this run, details TBD.
  • May - @D1EZEL will be leading this run, details TBD.
CSC Raffle Drawing
  • There were two drawings held for an ARB Recovery Strap with the proceeds of the raffle tickets going to CSC. One drawing had been conducted online a few weeks ago and was open to all CSC members. The second drawing was only for people who attended this specific CSC meeting. The drawing for both straps was held at this meeting. @Abigail was drawn as the winner of the online raffle, and @murf was drawn as the winner of the onsite drawing. Other raffle items will be offered in the near future. If you have ideas of other good items to raffle, contact @LandCruiserPhil. We would like to keep the general price of tickets low $5-10, so the overall cost of the item shouldn't be too extravagant. For example, the ARB strap cost under $100. Thanks to all who entered, this is a good way for the club to bring in a little extra revenue, and the odds of winning are pretty decent, as only 25 tickets were sold for each raffle.

New Business
  • @LongDuck and @LandCruiserPhil would like to encourage all CSC members to study for and obtain their HAM radio licenses. HAM is much more reliable than CB on the trail, and is now becoming the predominant and preferred means of communication for the club. The next test date is on Saturday, March 24th here in Phoenix. If you are interested in this and would like more information on study techniques and other details, or have general questions, contact @LongDuck. More information is also available on the thread Future Club HAMster's, unite! HAM Test Challenge Date, APR22.
