It has been rather chilly here for the last week, and with no heat in the small garage that I am working out of it it is sometimes better to just toss a log in the fireplace.

Or go skiing.

Or go on a hike.

The 40 looks great, i hope MT is treating you well.

Living the dream so far! Almost time to focus on fishing again, the 40 is coming along, now if we can find a nice house to buy.

I don't know how you do it.......look ,just pack up, move to Carolina, I'll sacrifice myself in your place

It’s a horrible life here, cost of living is high, snows all the time, stays below freezing for weeks on end, deer and elk everywhere................I love it.

Fantastic! @rkymtnflyfisher Ryan you got it going on man. Good for you.

I fired up the engine today and tuned it up, I am running it off of a gas can right now just to start it and test everything. So far so good, I even took it for a few laps around the cow pasture!!!

Time for a cold beer to celebrate!!

I also got word we have a contract on our house in Maryland!!!

Man I am just starting my 1972 FJ40 adventure. I read this entire thread and you did a great job. I am planning a frame off for mine also. I was wondering who makes that front bumper and grill guard. I would like to go that route. Anyway great build thread!

That is an older 4Plus bumper from @lcwizard I am pretty sure it is no longer being made. Keep an eye on craigslist and the classifieds here on Mud. They do pop up on occasion, I picked mine up for like $100 or so. Thanks for the compliments on the build, it has definitely been a tough road!

Your build gives me more confidence that I can do my own body work and paint! Great Job.

Thanks! It was a steep learning curve on everything I did, some things turned out better than other but in the end I was building a rig to go have fun in and enjoy, not one to sit in the garage and admire! It is getting put to use already and I am not even close to having it completed!

@Tommy Shumpert @khp1 I could not have built my 40 without the knowledge and experience passed on through the threads here on mud, there are too many people here to list that have helped me on my build without even knowing. Everything that you will encounter during a build has already been fought by someone else, chances are they have posted up about it on Mud. I browsed for hours on the search looking for answers to questions, some I didn't know I even had. Thanks to the whole Mud community.

I figured it was an older bumper. It looks great though. I love those vintage bumpers.

I actually did a google search and they still have a website. About $1000.00 Yeah I think craigslist. That is quite a bit out of my bumper budget range..

I also have the rear swing out bumper/tire carrier/beer cooler carrier from 4Plus, Craigslist as well.

It is as solid as the price reflects, well worth the coin if purchased new. If I hadn’t found both on Craigslist I would have saved up to buy once I had the chance.

I really love the look of that front bumper and grill guard. I may change my tune later because I have time before mine is road worthy.

Box o' parts showed up yesterday, I think. A transfer case gasket kit, new bolts for the roll bar, and new bolts for the seat brackets. Definitely more bolts to come, the tranny tunnel will get shiny hardware all the way around, as well as the hardtop components.

what are the size bolts in the pic? and i noticed there are two different part numbers, i looked them up and found they are both bolts w/ washers but one is .23 cents and the other $1.03.

All those bolts were for the roll cage to tub.

20 year anniversary of Pearl Jam in Missoula and they are playing there again in Aug!!!!

There may have been some bolts for the seat brackets to tub in that bag also, they may be the more expensive bolts. The ones for the roll bar to tub are the 61025# they still show as $.29

Hope that helps a little.

just finished reading up on your build, badass! lots of good info in there that will help me out thanks.
cheers:beer:

It has been an adventure to say the least, toss moving across the country in the mix and it really got interesting.
