I think the later 1HZ made more power at the wheels from 2 things. Some settings in the injection system and the R151F gearbox that required less effort to spin than the old H55F.
A diesel injection specialist told me he dynos all of them after pump and or injector replacement. A new, recently run in 1HZ can attain 69-70hp. This drops off to about 65hp when they have 300000klms+ on the engine, but not all engines are the same due to driving and maintenance variations. I think he said my old cab chassis got about 67hp at 230000klms
He also said you can get another 7hp with a straight exhaust routing it down the left side and turning up the fuel slightly

The auto hubs are driven by small electric motors ... you can hear them quite clearly if you stand beside the wheel when wifey flicks them on....They are also complete unreliable rubbish so if they dont work i wouldnt loose alot of sleep... replace them with aisan manual hubs first chance you get....cheap as outa NZ or Aus......
Rosscos right , if it starts in the morning and sounds good the only thing that will stop it is dirty diesel , no water or no oil.... Nice truck mate, have fun

Developed a small fuel drip by the time we got to Sedona. Any concerns about driving another 1000mi? Assuming it’s probably a loose clamp or fitting

See if you can tell where its coming from. If its dripping from the bottom of the injection pump or appears to be dripping from the power steering pump area you can probably keep going no problem. If it from one of the inlet pipe connections it means you are sucking in air to the pump.....not a deal breaker but not the best for a long drive.

Check the hose clamps on the soft rubber fuel hose connections and the sedimenter and fuel filter area. If it drips a bit from the pump area when you start up then slows up or stops while you are going it's probably one of the easily replaced seals on the pump. Seals up when things heat up. I drove my Hilux for a while that way with no ill effects. If you don't notice any stumbling or engine hesitation it's most likely upstream from the pump/ high pressure.

My PZJ70 just recently developed a leak at the IP and I was able to keep driving it but now I am in the process of removing the IP.

Like Mookies said, it appeared to be from the power steering pump but it was obviously diesel. It slows down a lot when things do heat up.

Got it. She also started blowing black smoke under acceleration and a puff under deceleration. I swear, we drove it for like 40 minutes before I bought it and I saw none of this until a couple days later.

could be your fuel filter (needs to be changed) and your air filter about the smoke.
Does the fuel pump's max fuel screw still have the wire wrapped around it?

Has the injection system ever been serviced? don't freak out.

Not sure. I don’t have records from Japan. Runs very smooth - without the visible smoke there would be no indication that anything was wrong. Would running a fuel cleaner help at all to clean dirty injectors/carbon buildup? I’ve never used a fuel treatment on any vehicle, so I don’t know if they’re actually effective.

The fuel treatment helps the burn more than anything. The only way to really clean an injector tip is to have them serviced. If it's dripping under the pump/ power steering area it's most likely one of 2 rubber seals. If it has the ASCD device it is the likely culprit. A little smoke when you are goosing it is normal. Are you at altitude by chance?

Oh yes, at about 7500 ft right now. Also, the trip is pretty amazing so far.

My 1pz has always blown abit of black smoke on the hills.....my injector pump man said its a sign its happy..... it starts instantly and does about 140 kmph flat out....if yours with 2 more doors and roof tent dose close too 125 / 130 id say thats pretty good.

At that altitude especially when climbing hills or accelerating hard black smoke is normal for a 1HZ. Looks like an amazing trip!

We’ve been cruising at 125-130 every day. I just looked over and my wife is doing 145 through South Dakota.

Too fast for this type of engine, they are not made for it. Its why the 1HZ engines in mine trucks die.
I keep mine under 120kph for sustained driving.
